  Beaner1iPhone 4 Sim card problems
United States August 31st, 2010, 11:39 am

I've had my iPhone 4 since a month after launch date and today was the second time that all of a sudden my screen said there was no sim card installed. In Apple's infinite wisdom, no sim card removal tool was included with the IPhone 4. Luckily I happen to have something small
Enough to shove in and after re-booting my iPhone several times it finally recognize the sim card. Is anyone else having this problem?

Yes I think echofon is one of the best. It's the one I've been using mostly. I haven't really given tweetdeck a complete try- I have it on my Mac and it's always slow (now I understand why thanks to chasm!)

I'll give it a go.

United States August 29th, 2010, 12:39 am

No, have ONLY the icon. When pressed, the light blue, stripped background comes up. No words. Weird huh. Thinkk everything went back to default sounds wallpaper etc. Talked to Apple, they helped me wipe, put new clean version of 4.02 back on and install all my downloaded apps. Sad part is it's STILL doing the same as before or locking up the phone so I have to reboot. Frustrating. Thanks for taking time to reply. I am open to ideas/solutions. Personally I wonder if 4.02 is buggy?

To the best of my knowledge, there are no viable processor upgrades for G5s at all.

United States August 23rd, 2010, 10:39 am

I have to take my 3G to the Apple store and let them do the upgrade. Seems my Windoes XP shuts iTunes down when it's within 1oomb or so of the download. Haven't had a problem in the past, just since the version 4 came aboard.
Any ideas on how to make the thing work?

All you need is a jailbreak and MyWi from the Cydia store. Then you will be able to turn your iPhone 3G/3GS/4 into a mobile hotspot.

United States August 21st, 2010, 11:59 am

Ok I know I am not crazy. Sitting here looking for craigslist pro, and somehow it is just gone from my iPhone. Before upgrading to 4.0 I used it. Lastweek post-upgrade I was even prompted to download an update for it, which I did. It is no where to be found. Now next problem, I tried to go into the app store to re download, and there is no "install" button on any craigslist app. Not even the greyed out "installed" notification but I am able to download and purchase other apps. What am I doing wrong?

chasmRe: To jailbreak or not to jail break?
Canada August 21st, 2010, 5:02 am

I have a jailbroken 2G iPhone.

Overall, jailbreaking is WAY overrated. There are only a handful of *great* apps available; most everything else is ringtones, wallpapers and just plain junk. I jailbroke my phone because I needed to unlock it (moved to Canada) and because there were one or two apps I really wanted. Two years later, you can make that three apps, maybe four. iPads are of course sold unlocked everywhere so unlocking (the #1 reason for me to jailbreak) is moot.

Multi-tasking is one reason to jailbreak the older iPhones, but in point of fact battery life DOES suffer quite a lot. I had it on my iPhone and took it off after a day or two, it was that bad (a pity, because I really did want to listen to Radio Paradise while surfing). The 3G might be somewhat better but as I recall the 2G and the 3G are much more alike than different in terms of battery so I doubt it.

Jailbreaking the iPad is, as far as I can tell, a totally pointless exercise; of the three "unofficial" apps I have found personally useful, two of them are already incorporated into it or are impossible (stereo bluetooth support and video recording) and the other won't work properly on an iPad (it's phone-specific dev stuff). You might find *something* that could be useful on an iPad, but that's a mighty small needle in an awfully big haystack, I think you'll discover.

Multi-tasking is available to 3GS and higher iPhones now for free, and coming to the iPad in a month, so I can't see that as motivation to take the risk (and there is a small risk) of jailbreaking.

If you still want to try it out on the 3G, that's your prerogative of course, but on the iPad? Can't see the point.

woveRe: Specialized switch for link aggregation?
United States August 16th, 2010, 9:41 pm

Link aggregation has not been standardized on yet by the IEEE. However most manufactures have methods to handle it. I would think you would not have any problems with any major manufacturer switch. If you need for this to occur across multiple switches it would probably be best to stick with them all being the same manufacturer.

My iPhone 4 I find is good for everything EXCEPT making phone calls. Even with a bumper, I have on average 6 dropped calls a day. This issue seems to have become consistently bad a little over a week ago?!?!?

Yes and if this don't work, try hardreset: HOLD Power/Standby button+Home button, for a long time. Then it should Restart. The restart take longer than a normal!
