If anybody around here has any idea what is going on I'm sure they'll post. Why don't you try using one of the other methods to connect to Gmail besides Exchange and see if it turns out to be more reliable? It sounds like an issue with Gmail's services combined with Exchange, or possibly something to do with having both a Google app installed and Google setup using iPhone's Exchange services.

I haven't used Gmail on my iPhone but are you doing it via IMAP or POP? You might want to try the protocol opposite of the one you're using.
I'm getting Gmail just fine in Mail.app on my desktop Mac, which is fundamentally similar to the iPhone version.

Hi I have been having this problem where my wifi drops out when it is not full strength. It works when I am close to the router but once I walk away and it drops a bar on the wifi signal it drops out. My wife's iPhone still works fine and mine also worked fine for the past 15 months. I have changed the rear panel on my phone because it was cracked. I have tried to reset network settings. I have tried a dull restore. I have tried jailbreaking. I have tried everything. Does anyone else know what I can do. Cheers

The only thing I'm going to add to Turbladdade's brilliant answer is that on that last step ("After it's done, launch iTunes") if you'll do that holding the Option key down you will get a dialog asking you to either create a new library or pick an existing one. Do the latter and point it to your freshly-copied library. This will help prevent the possibility of iTunes not initially "seeing" the new library and creating a blank one instead.

If your other Mac has FireWire, connect the two while your old one is off. Then, start the old one and immediately hold down T until you see a bouncing FireWire icon on the screen. It is then basically in an external hard drive mode, and you can access it on the new Mac as such.
On your new Mac, make sure iTunes isn't running, and browse to your user's Music folder. It'll be in Home -> Music. Inside the music folder will be a folder named iTunes. Rename this folder iTunes Backup (or something equivalent). Then, navigate the contents of your old Mac's hard drive until you come upon your old iTunes music folder. It'll be in Users -> username -> Music. Drag it into the same Music folder on your new Mac, and wait for the copy to finish. After it's done, launch iTunes to verify success. iTunes might ask your permission to upgrade your "old" iTunes music folder to this new version of iTunes.
Of course, if your old computer is a PC, then everything I just typed is useless. Let us know how that works out for you.

Well, yes there are tools to do that, however the easiest would be to copy your iTunes library directly from your old Mac or PC to your new Mac over a network connection. Is this not an option for you?

Hello.
Is anyone else having horrific trouble with the Sirius/xm app on their iPhone? I have called xm 10 times and they are now telling me it's a problem with the app not the service from them. Is there a work around or a fix or something that can be done to fix this issue.
Basically I get kicked out every 15 minutes telling me to contact customer support and then have to log back in only to be told that a premium subscription is required to access this app. I've had a sub since the day the app was released.
Can any one help?
Thank you!!!

Well, what you described seems odd but each person has their own workflow. I can't think of any reason Mac OS would rearrange your desktop icons if you don't have the auto-arrange option enabled. If you go to View -> Show View Options, I usually keep this setting to "Snap to Grid" so that icons conform to clean rows and columns, but the other settings would have the effect you described. That being said, they would have effect immediately and you would never be able to arrange the icons in the first place with for example "Arrange by Name" turned on.
Perhaps your computer is somehow losing the icon arrangement every time you restart? First thing to try (in any problem really) is repair permissions and restart.

Hi Info-Mac,
Just a brief question. I have an iMac (dual core, 24 inches... OS 10.6.2) Everything is fine except a small but very annoying problem.
I use the "desktop" much. Since the display is vast, I organize my current icons by "regions". To the left side for this, at the top for that, near the trash can for likely "trashable" documents... etc.
Everything is OK until I restart my computer. Then all my icons go to the right side of the monitor, like windows does on the left side. It disorganize my arrangement. I have looked at all the prefs and settings. Searched everywhere (almost) for a solution to this... It seems that there is no way to prevent this. What am I missing??? Thank you very much.

It's been awhile since I've installed Leopard on anything, but I believe the installer checks for the presence of an 867mhz or higher G4 processor and fails without it. If it's an AGP model then yes, you can install Leopard by connecting it to another Mac via FireWire target disk mode, booting the other Mac with the Leopard installer and installing onto the "external" hard drive that is your G4.

"sync" does not mean "move and delete," so no, syncing does not necessarily take songs off your phone. What you want to do is check in iTunes regarding what you have set to sync TO the iPhone. iTunes (on your computer) controls what songs are put on your iPhone, but you have to tell it what (playlists, artists, albums, songs etc) you want on there, since space is limited compared to your computer.

What you're seeking to do is typically considered not ideal. Flat picture files, like JPEG and PNG images, do not contain text data, rather the text is simply rasterized pixels just like the rest of the image. You would ideally want to get the text in it's original format. That being said, you can try your luck with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software. A free one available from Google can be found here. Make sure to take it with a grain of salt, it is particularly unreliable. Be sure to proofread anything created by an OCR program for spelling and grammar errors.

Well, let's be clear about something: when you turn off the screen by clicking the top button, that does not "shut down" the iPhone, and so yes apps *could* still be running in the background (mail checking for mail, iPod still playing, IM apps still active, etc).
If you want to actually shut down an iPhone, you must press and hold the top button *and* slide the red "power off" slider. Once that is done, no apps at all are running.

Well you definitely need to export them QuickTime format. First you need Windows Media Components for QuickTime, which you can download here. This is basically a plugin that allows QuickTime to handle WMV files natively. It is (or was?) based on Flip4Mac. Now, you'll find lots of references to paid versions of Flip4Mac so you can export them but I find that's rubbish. If after downloading the free version of Windows Media Components for QuickTime/Flip4Mac, simply open your WMV video in QuickTime Player (hopefully you're on Snow Leopard) and you can do File -> Save As and choose a resolution or format. I was able to save my test video "for iPhone" and then iMovie imported it just fine.
