Subject: [*] Barrack 1.0.3 Installer

Meticulously crafted by Greg Lovette, Barrack is a game that is hard to
pigeonhole. It exhibits a precarious balance between action and strategy;
thinking and reflex. The feeling you get from playing Barrack is an
eccentric harmony between the automatic, mind-numbing pleasure of Tetris
and the kind of action found in Maelstrom. The result is that you'll be
left with sweat on your brow.

Barrack's goal is deceptively simple; there are a number of balls on the
play field that are bouncing like a neurotic on a sugar rush. Your job is
to use your shooter to isolate them. Sounds easy, right?

It isn't. First of all, if a ball breaks your shooter's particle beam
before it tears through the play field, your shooter overloads and
explodes in a cascade of fire and scrap metal.

The second problem is that these aren't any ordinary balls. They have
more personalities than Sybil, and none of them are particularly
friendly. We'll leave the particulars up to your imagination for now, but
suffice it to say that these aren't the kind of balls you get from bubble
gum machines.

Oh, did we forget to mention the land shark? Bosco is a rare breed of
shark capable of rearranging his molecular structure at will. This
enables him to travel at quite a clip through otherwise solid substances.
If you don't pay attention while he closes in on your shooter, you may
end up being fish-bait. He's tenacious, voracious, and about every other
-acious you can think of, all rolled into one lean, mean,
shooter-munchin' machine.

Barrack features stunning artwork, intense action, vibrant 8-channel
stereo sound effects, and the addictiveness that comes standard in an
Ambrosia game.

Price: $15.00
Requires: 256 Color Screen, 13" or Greater; 040 or PowerPC recommended

Subject: [*] Barrack 1.0.3 Updater

Ambrosia Software, Inc. has just released a Barrack 1.0.3 Updater.
This updater only works if you already have an earlier version of
Barrack. If you do not already have Barrack, you need to download the
complete Barrack 1.0.3 package.

This updater brings Barrack up to Barrack 1.0.3, the latest version
which contains a number of bug fixes and adds a few features. It also
marks the beginning of the official Barrack High Score Contest! All
of the files in the Barrack 1.0.3 Update should be extracted into your
existing Barrack folder to properly upgrade Barrack to version 1.0.3.

The following is a list of the bugs that were fixed in Barrack 1.0.3:

-- Compiled with CodeWarrior 9
-- Fixed various crashes that occurred when firing a barrier along
edges of an area
-- Fixed bug where nuking Bosco would yield inaccurate bonuses
-- 10x Bosco "I keel you!" rampage bonuses are now consistently and
accurately rewarded
-- Small areas can now be "shaved" further
-- Reduced delays when aborting a game (when mouse button hit)
-- Reduced delays in bonus tally screen (when space bar or mouse
button hit)

* Introduction

One of the early wonders of the Mac was its revolutionary ability to
do copy and paste across various applications. Unlike other areas in
the Mac's system software that have changed and progressed over the
years, copy and paste has not evolved. How many times have you found
yourself going back and forth copying in one application and pasting
in a different application, wishing to yourself that you could copy
5-10 items at a time, then go to another application and paste each of
these items. Now you can!

* New Features

Version 3.0 of CopyPaste has been improved and enhanced in many ways
* PowerMac Native Code (faster)
* Lots of new utilities for text processing, date insertion, and world
script.
* Easy access thru the bottom of the Edit menu (you'll love this
feature).
* Extensive built in help.
* Improved application switching.
* Now rewritten in C
* And many other improvements.

Subject: [*] CopyThru v2.2.7

CopyThru v2.2.7 makes duplicates of HFS volumes with the option of
segmenting the copy through a fixed (or simply not-removed) volume.
In other words, it is a multi-pass block copier for removable media.

Say you have a single 1Gb removable-cartridge optical and 100Mb of
available hard disk space. You want to copy optical volume A: to
optical volume B:. If you drag sets of folders manually from A: to
the hard drive, eject, and then drag them from the hard drive to B:
then it takes you 6 hours with 34 ejections & insertions. With
CopyThru it takes a mere hour and only requires 11 ejections &
insertions!

CopyThru fills up your hard drive (or as much of it as you permit to
be filled-up) with blocks, ejects the source volume, requests the
destination volume, and then repeats until the copy is completed.
Since it does asynchronous block-copying, it is much faster than
Finder-dragging.

Version 2.2.7 Supports early System 7 versions.
680x0 Macs. 150Kb application partition, (but it swipes
all the system memory that it can get away with!)

E-mail-ware. If you use it, send me e-mail and let me know.

Subject: [*] Encryplet fc1

I'm attaching to this message the final client version 1 of Encryplet.

Encryplet is a US$5 shareware AppleScript(R) droplet which makes it
easy to encrypt and decrypt files by drag-and-dropping them onto a
Desktop Encryptor icon (similar to the Desktop Printer icons in
QuickDraw GX and System 7.5.1 and later).

Encryplet relies on your AppleScript-aware version of Philip
Zimmermann's PGP software =82MacPGP(R)=82 to perform encryption and
decryption.

Because PGP also compresses data when encrypting it, Encryplet can
also be useful as an easy-to-use, effective data compression utility
while it secures your private information - I was able to reduce some
text files to 27% of their original size.

GPOWER performs high-precision statistical power analyses for the most
common statistical tests in behavioral research, that is, t-tests,
F-tests, and Chi^2-tests.

GPOWER computes
(a) power values for given sample sizes, effect sizes
and alpha levels (post hoc power analyses),
(b) sample sizes for given effect sizes, alpha levels,
and power values (a priori power analyses), and
(c) alpha and beta values for given sample sizes,
effect sizes and beta/alpha ratios (compromise power analyses).

The program may be used to display graphically the relation between
any two of the relevant variables and it offers the opportunity to
compute the effect size measures from basic parameters defining the
alternative hypothesis.

A few bugs have been corrected and the interface has been changed. A
"How to use" HyperCard stack is now included to explain some basic
features of statistical power analysis and how such analyses are
performed using GPower. The program is free. Support is partial.
The file has been checked using Disinfectant 3.6.

Hopefully this'll be the last version, and I can get on with my life:)

what is it?
This control panel performs the exactly same the same function as the
"Secret Finder Features" extension except that it is user-configurable
(Personally, I like the Finder Zooms)

Beginning with Finder 7.5.4-System 7.5.2. and up-Apple added a couple of
features to the Finder, but did not enable them, apparantly for want of
testing. They are:

Control-Drag an item to make an alias to it
Command-R to Reveal the original item of an alias
Command-Delete Moves selection to the Trash
Enable/Disable the zoom rectangles when opening/closing windows and gridding

To enable these features, just drag Hidden Finder Features to the control
panels folder and open it. The zoom rectangle and command-delete options
will take effect immediately. You will need to restart in order for the
alias options to take effect.

This control panel does not install any conflict-inducing patches, it
simply enables features that were already in the Finder.

Subject: [*] Hybrid Filename Checker 1.0.2

MacOS Version (only)
Revision 1.0.2

What does this utility do?
To share files across multiple computer platforms, files must
conform to the lowest common denominator of file naming conventions,
namely ISO9660. This utility lists all files in a selected folder
(and sub folders) that do not conform to ISO9660, DOS '8.3' /
Windows* 3.1 or Windows95* naming conventions. Folder names,
lowercase characters and invalid DOS extensions can also be checked
for.

This utility is particularly useful in the production of hybrid
(cross platform) CD-ROMs where all shared files names must conform
to ISO9660.

Version 1.0.2 fixes the comma bug and a few other small problems.

Subject: [*] ItalianVerbs-LanguageProgram

Italian Verbs is an application that helps you learn and refresh your
knowledge about conjugation rules of Italian verbs.

Features
The program comes with the predefined database of 120 irregular
Italian verbs. You can freely add new verbs and modify existing ones.
You can easily add comments to every verb. This is convenient to store
the example sentences associated with given verb. The conjugation
rules are presented for all available Modi, Tempi combinations. You
can find there even more information about each verb (ausiliare,
intransitivo/transitivo, conj. pattern number, English translation,
part. presente, part. passato, gerundio). You can associate a sound
(record sound using a microphone and play it back) with each verb. The
program has the exercises window. It is useful to determine if your
knowledge is sufficient. You can keep the verbs that you have learned
already in the separate list and let the program generate exercises
just for this group of verbs. You can also attach databases prepared
by other users to your own verbs database.

Subject: [*] Jon's Menu Scripts 1.0

Attached are the latest versions of my menu scripts. These menu
scripts work with AppleScript 1.1 and PlainTalk 1.4.1 (1.5 on a
PowerBook 5300) to give some of the functionality of PlainTalk 1.3
under the latest versions of PlainTalk.

What the heck are these scripts?

Jon's Menu Scripts are a set of AppleScripts designed to be used with
PlainTalk 1.4.1 and above. They give you back some of the abilities
which were removed from PlainTalk 1.4 and above.

In brief, these scripts are:

Go To Sleep - Put your Mac to sleep
Open - Open whatever is selected in the Finder
Quit - Quits the current application.
Restart - Restarts your Mac
Shut Down - Shuts down your Mac

To help protect against misunderstanding, the Restart and Shut Down
scripts require confirmation to continue. The Quit script requires
confirmation if you attempt to quit the Finder.

These scripts are freeware.

Subject: [*] kSan Molecular Dynamics

This is the fourth Beta release of kSan Molecular Dynamics for
Macintosh. kSan will be of interest to researchers doing simulations
of atomic structure, or educators teaching fundamentals of how
macroscopic thermodynamic properties can be estimated from
atomic-level interactions.

kSan calculates energies of atomic structures based on Lennard-Jones,
Tersoff or Embedded Atom interatomic potentials, and performs
molecular dynamics calculations based on Verlet or Gear algorithms.

kSan also serves as an ensemble editor and viewer, with select and
group functions for defining complex boundary conditions and real-time
color-coded graphical display of ensemble data.

kSan is built around a plug-in architecture so that researchers may
write and compile their own interatomic potentials, screening
functions and data collection routines, so as to take advantage of the
other capabilities of kSan.

kSan is scriptable, providing support for a small number of
AppleScript verbs (get, set, create, delete, select), ensemble objects
(particle, group) and their properties (position, velocity, energy,
equilibrium temperature, etc.).

kSan can run with a completely Japanese user interface with KanjiTalk
or Japanese Language Kit installed

kSan requires a power macintosh. A manual, example files and example
scripts are included in the package.

that offers an easy-to-use, more Macintosh(R) friendly user interface
to Philip Zimmermann's PGP software =E3MacPGP(R).

MacPGP Control relies on your AppleScript-aware version of MacPGP to
perform encryption and decryption. It is a US$15 shareware.

The main features of MPGPC are:

*** MacPGP related features=09
+ Compatible with all known scriptable versions of MacPGP including
the MIT versions and the MacPGP 2.6.3i.
+ Keypair generation of any allowed (by MacPGP) length up to 2048-bit.
+ Update of PGP public key information of user keyring members through
TCP/IP connection.
+ Definition and use of nicknames for Users and Groups recipients.
+ More user control for keyring related actions, through a true
Macintosh Human Interface and =E3in some cases=E3 direct manipulation of
keyring file data, including: editing trust flag byte,
enabling/disabling, extracting, checking, certifying, fingerprinting,
and forcing Warn-Only bits.
+ More user control for PGP and conventionally encrypting text and
binary files. When PGP encrypting file, users can designate more than
one recipient.
+ Secure clean clear-signed PGP ciphers, through the implementation of
features such as: expanding tabs, transliterating non-USASCII
characters, and word-wrapping lines before processing and handing over
to email application.
+ Viewing of PGP packets for educational and debugging purposes.
+ Opaque signing (asciified clear-signed text)
+ Transparent use of user's UserIDs found in his/her secret keyring file.
+ Encryption to multiple recipients.
+ Generation of Key Revocation Certificates.

*** Macintosh related features=09
+ Encryption of voice messages recorded by Mac sound input devices.
+ Easy to use, point-and-click Macintosh User Interface.
+ Extensive support of drag-and-drop.
+ Documented handlers calls for use by other scriptors.

Subject: [*] Mailbox to TSV V1.2.1 - Mailbox format to tab-separated-values

This package contains a kit to convert from a mailbox file format,
such as that used by Eudora, to a tab-separated-value file format, suitable
for import into FileMaker Pro, Excel, or anything that can read TSV files.
While it does not support the range of operations that other converters do,
it does what it does very well, and very quickly.

There are options to control whether a title row is output, whether
paragraphing in the body is guessed, which format of date representation is
used, and which headers should be ignored completely. Standard headers are
placed in specific cell, while other headers which are not ignored are
accumulated into a single cell.

A sample FileMaker Pro 3 database is included to demonstrate importing of
files.
The package requires MacPerl 5.0.6r1m or later to run the droplet program,
AppleScript to support MacPerl, and FileMaker Pro 3 to use the database,
although
any database can import the resulting TSV file..

For more information, read the Readme file, or
visit the web page at http://www.sasknet.com/~dalgl/iss.html

I give permission for my program to be included on the Info-Mac CD-ROM.

Subject: [*] Serial Enabler 1.0.2

The Serial Enabler allows you to:
* fix the speed of one or both serial ports at 115,200 bps or 230,400 bps on
newer Macintosh Computers. Ideal for V.34 modems or ISDN terminal adapters!
* locks the speed for a specific or all available baudrates to another
baudrate.

The Serial Enabler is a control panel and a system extension. The control
panel allows you to change the port mapping at runtime. No restarts
necessary! (normally you have to quit and restart currently running terminal
programs). The Serial Enabler also works with Communication Toolbox Software!

The Serial Enabler is Freeware. You may use it as you wish, but need written
permission for any commercial distribution!

System Requirements and Features

Serial Enabler works with - as far as I know - every piece of communications
software available on the MacOS.

It requires at least System 7 or later. I recommend installing System 7.5.3
or SerialDMA 2.0.2 (a new serial driver from Apple for the PowerMacs 6100,
7100, 8100, 7200, 7500, 8500 and 9500; it provides better performance and
contains fewer bugs than the old serial driver). SerialDMA is available in
the "System 7.5.2 Printing Update 1.1". System 7.5.3 is available for MacOS
7.5 users as "System 7.5 Update 2.0". You may download it from your favorite
online service.

The baudrates 115,200 bps and 230,200 bps won't work on every Macintosh! You
may have to try them out to see if they work on your Mac. Please send me
feedback on this!

Have fun,
