Re: Need help with Itunes problem on MacBook Pro

How about some specifics on the computer? CPU, RAM, HD, Year of manufacture and if you did a backup before updating (presumably to Yosemite)?

Re: Concerns About OS X And MacBook Pro

I'm pretty sure Python runs on Mac. In fact I think it comes preinstalled, but just in case give Apple a call to verify it. I don't think you have any problems running a Mac at work. Most major applications are available for both platforms, and in a pinch you can always run Windows in a VM or Boot C...

Re: Concerns About OS X And MacBook Pro

I just want to bring up a couple of points. Macs don't come with flash preinstalled. You'll have to download it for free from Adobe and only takes about a minute to install. The second point is be aware of which MacBook Pro you buy. The 15" Machines are quad core and I believe only i7, while th...

Re: Problem with MacBook Air

How old is your MBA and do you have Applecare? Even is you don't have Applecare, the mac still has a 1 year warranty. I'd bring it to an Apple Store and have them take a look.

Re: Wireless mouse not being detected

It might be the hardware or it might be a munged driver. Reinstalling the OS would clear up the driver problem and is no more painful than an OS update, it just takes longer.

It's also handy to have a wired mouse around and they can be very inexpensive. I picked up a few for $3 each.

Re: Wireless mouse not being detected

Check if you have a recovery partition by holding ⌘ R while booting (disk utility will show it grayed out). Try reinstalling the operating system. It can cure a lot of ills and is less painful than it sounds.

Re: Wireless mouse not being detected

Your data is likely still on your HD, just take it out, pop it in a case and plug it into another Mac to check.

I don't recall if Lion had a recovery partition but it's worth a try. Turn it on and hold down ⌘ R for a while and see what happens.

2011 iMac, still on Lion and no backup?

Re: iOS 7 Buglist

I’m not really big into texting and I delete the few non-text messages that I get. We determined early on that the problem wasn’t coming from there. Er… the Videos app is the first party app called Videos. It’s the Apple supplied app used to play the movies, music, etc., that either get downloaded f...

iOS 7 Buglist

I've had problems with iOS 7 since day one. I posted a tirade in the Apple Discussion forums and it was promptly deleted so I'll post it here. Please let me know if you're having similar problems and if you've come up with any solutions. So here it is... First was “Other” memory getting out of hand....

Re: HELP! Screen keeps blacking out forcing me to hard reboot!

First thing I'd do is upgrade the OS to 10.7 or 10.8. If that doesn't help I'd bring the Mac to an Apple store and see if it might be the video hardware.

Re: Word and PP appear automatically after switching on iMac

Check your login items under accounts in System Preferences and look for something different that might be causing this. If you don't find anything there look in the Library folders in the root directory, System folder and your home folder for the StartupItems folder(s). Peruse them for possible cul...

Re: How safe is it to run a Mac without any antivirus software?

I run Win 7 using Parallels. Strange as it may seem, my Mac version of Avast (free) seems to find infected software in the Windows HDD file more often than Avast (free) for Windows does while Windows is running.

Re: confusing about reformat SSD for ML clean install

Well, It’s been a while since I worked with an SSD but I treat them no differently than HDDs or flash drives. As rule I will first partition with a GUID Partition Map (necessary if the drive is ever to be used as an OSX boot drive), format it as HFS+ (journaled). I don’t know about doing a one pass ...

If your iPad is WiFi only then it doesn’t have a GPS or cellular circuitry to determine its location. If does then you may have location services turned off.

I recall that it's possible, just a bit convoluted and requires a lot of spare disk space. Then again I haven't looked into this in many years, so could you provide a quick rundown of the process?

Re: Partitioning Mac OSX retrospectively

Hi Jenni,

First make a bootable backup of your drive (Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper come to mind). Boot from the clone (hold the option key down while booting) and repartition your original boot drive. Re-clone your backup to one partition and install the older OS on the other.
