Sony also has a reader for books ordered through its service. Barnes & Noble and Amazon also offer readers for their services.

Re: Optical Drives

I think there are still some out there who need an optical drive either for older software or to view DVDs. Unless you have a MBA, don't buy the Mac Super Drive external unit as it only works with the MBA. Get one from Iomega or LaCie.

Re: Un-Installers for PPC 2.7ghz Leopard?

I have used an app called "AppCleaner." It works well and can remove multiple apps ar a time. I'm not sure if it s available from te Apple Store. Just google appcleaner and it will take yu to a list of sites available. You can download it and the best part is - the appcleaner is free!

Re: What to do with an iPod

You could sell one on eBay or craigslist. You can also use it as a trade-in towards some other product on PowerMax.com or MacMall.com. Or you could just keep it. Maybe your wife or kids or some other relative wuld love to have it.

Re: Lion Field Reports

In a previous post I stated that Lion is good. After using it for a few months now, I have changed my opinion. I have had some problems with the way it takes over the computer and I don't need all the swipes and other accutrements that come with Lion. All I want is a basic OS. To me, the best OS X w...

MacBook Air

I just got a new 13" MBA with the Core i5 1.7 GHz proc, 256 GB SSD, 4 GB RAM, and I'm just loving it!I transferred all my info manually as my other machine was a 13" Black MacBook, circa 2008. The outboard HD I had was powered through the Firewire port which is just as dead as AppleWorks these days....

Re: Lion Field Reports

The latest of OS X's babies has grown u quickly. That 3.49 GB download came through quickly...a little less that 1hour 30 minutes. It runs well on my MacBook Pro mid-2010 with the i7 2.9 GHz, 4 GB RAM and 500 GB HD. I had a few programs that didn't survive the transition, but I knew about them befor...

Re: Why has no one noticed that the MacBook has been dropped!

The MacBook has been replaced by the MacBook Air. Goodbye old paint, I mean Macbook and Hello MacBook Air. A smaller, lighter, but more capable machine with i5 or i7 processors and better graphics. A wise choice that makes the MacBook Pro have to watch over its shoulders as it may be next to go.

Re: Lion

You do NOT have to upgrade. If you are happy with Snow Leopard and what it offers, stay with it. I know, I will. Some of my favorite programs will not run under Lion because Rosetta will no longer be supported. One of the programs I would not be able to use under Lion is Quicken. If you are an old t...

Re: Genealogy: Reunion - Family Treemaker

Family Tree Maker is back on the Mac! They have a new version out to mark their return to Mac. It's a little more difficult to make entries, but it does import information from you GED files, although not entirely correct. I guess we can't have everything. I still prefer Reunion.

I got lost in space, I guess, as I only have the original 20 GB iPod. I guess I'm still in the last century. It still works fine so why change it?

Try Hardcoremac.com as they usually list quite a bit of softwre for older macs, including OS discs. PowerMax.com is another source you might find useful.

Re: iMac g4

I didn't think about it before, but Turbo is right. Text Edit could work as a word processor and it's already included on most macs. I'm not sure if it was included on the older imacs, so check it out and see.

Re: Recent convert

Welcome to the Mac community. Congratulations on the iPad. Although many here hate Windows, I have some respect for them. Windows is improving, but is still behind Apple with its OS X operating system. When you decide on a Mac to replace your PC, consider what you want to do with it. If portability ...

Re: iWork vs. Microsoft office

iWork is a very good program and is the recommendation of choice if you are a heavy user. Its structure is easier to comprehend and is just less complicated than Office for Mac. MS Office to me is more like reading the New York Times as compared to iWork being like reading the average daily newspaper.

Re: iMac g4

For a heavy user, I agree that OpenOffice isn't an equal, but if you need to do just small projects which aren't complicated. I feel OpenOffice could be a good choice. I'll agree it doesn't compare with iWork or Office, but then it isn't really meant for the heavy user. I should have said that it's ...

Re: Cheap Mac

Try PowerMac.com. They carry new and used Macs. The used macs come with a 90 day warrantee and the prices vary depending on the type of machine and the equipment installed. You can still get a G4 Powerbook or any other G4 machine as well. The prices aren't dirt cheap though. They also tell in the de...

Re: iWork vs. Microsoft office

I like both programs, but my favorite is OpenOffice. It's free and does everything that MS Office can do as far as I'm concerned.
