Re: Time Machine takes extremely long to complete backup
"Somehow it's working now" doesn't fill me with a whole lot of confidence. I would like to recommend that you get something more powerful than Disk Utility. It's not a bad utility but there are utilities far more capable of dealing with problems Disk Utility won't touch or even notice. I've had exce...

Try iFixit.com. I know they have the screwdriver and may have either the replacement screws or philips head screws that will fit,

Re: How safe is it to run a Mac without any antivirus software?
It depends on your computing habits. Has Norton caught any problems yet? If not, you're probably safe without it. Personally I've been using Avast (free) for about a year and the only problems it ever finds are on Parallels' VM file (Windows) and occasional hits in my junk mail folder. Prior to usin...

I don't know about today, but weren't SCSI cards available for the G5s back when they were still being produced? It might be possible to find something on Ebay.

I'm sure the survey participants would appreciate a summary of your results and conclusions. Maybe even a link to the paper when you're done.

Re: Afraid to take my iPhone 5 apart to clean screen
I suggest heading over to ifixit.com and seeing what getting at the inside of the screen entails. If you're still convinced you want to have someone else do it, do a search on iPhone repair and shop around for a good price at a local shop. You could have it done at an Apple Store but they'd charge y...

When the phones are connected to iTunes, select each phone check the Summary and Info tabs to see what's different. Also check the Apps tab and uncheck Automatically sync new apps.

Re: iPhone 3Gs won't turn on nor access the DFU mode
Has the phone ever been Jailbroken or otherwise hacked? On any of the occasions that the phone was able to turn on, did it look like the battery was able to take a charge? The next time the phone manages to turn on try connecting it to iTunes and restoring it as a new phone. I have friends using a 3...

Re: Damage to iTunes from the program "Hear"--??!
Try deleting the iTunes app as well as it's prefs file and then try installing a fresh copy of iTunes. That might work. One other thing, if Hear came with an uninstall program try running that before doing the above.

There's also "Camera for iPad" that allows you to use your iPhone or iPod Touch as a camera for an iPad 1. It connects via either WiFi or Bluetooth.

It's also a good idea to turn off data roaming no matter where you are. Frankly I feel that off should be the default.

Call Apple Tech Support. You may have to reinstall address book. AppleCare may be spendy, but over the years it's been worth it's weight in gold. I wouldn't buy a Mac without it.

Re: Spyware and Virus protection for Mac
I have friends that use Windows and I occasionally run Windows on my Mac. The minimal system resources that get utilized during a scan are a small price to pay in order to keep my friends' and my system safe. Better safe than sorry. Besides, the most malignant piece of Malware I found on my Mac was ...

Re: iPhone photos to instant print kiosk
It could conceivably work, it just depends on the software on the kiosk. I have graphics software that sees my iPhone as a camera and offers to download the photos. Is it possible the software you're using has the specific capability to download from an iPhone? I'm pretty sure Apple offers framewor...

Re: Did the iOS 4 update screw up your iPad?
Gushin, I had the same problem with my iPhone 3GS. The thing is that I believe that's an intermittent bug in iTunes since it has happened to me a total of three times since 2007, spanning two different phones and two different computers. When I updated to 4.2.1 I had no problems with my iPad but my ...

Re: Did the iOS 4 update screw up your iPad?
On the iPad the only app I've seen problems with is Skype. Sometimes it doesn't detect a network connection, WiFi or 3G, other times it does. The orientation switch works as a mute button, but holding down the volume down button does the same thing. Other than that I've yet to see any problems. Afte...
