QuickTime Pro and Multiple Processors

Does QuickTime Pro make use of multiple processors when exporting video to other formats and sizes? I'm using it to export a really big video right now but it doesn't look like it is making full use of all the cores in my Mac Pro Quad Xeon.

Is this normal operation?

And just to verify this, I have attached a screenshot of these settings in Leopard. I actually didn't know this was there, which is pretty cool.

Re: removing posts

Yes... only I can do that. In the future as Info-Mac grows, we'll probably be bringing some moderators into the fold who will also have to ability to remove posts. Usually this is restricted to spam posts, or inappropriate posts (hence the report inappropriate post link at the bottom of each post). ...

Re: Yikes!

There are some upgrades available for these from Sonnet. The main problem with a Yikes! G4 is that it does not have an AGP slot, limiting your video to PCI cards. This, in turn, prevents you from using Quartz Extreme, which greatly enhances the speed and responsiveness of Mac OS X's GUI. While AGP-e...

Who uses what browser? Comment on why you chose this. Will make a great thread to point to for future "which browser should I use" questions. If you use more than one browser, select the one you most frequently use. You can change your vote in the future. ~~~~ I use Safari, because it is t...

Re: Macintosh Portable - battery pack restoration

Would "beige" and "hard plastic casing with two contacts on side" accurately describe your battery?

That would be incredibly if new batteries could still be bought for that system.

Weird Leopard Bug

My Spotlight search box was showing up in a weird location. Logging out and logging back in again fixed it, but it sure was weird. I'm not sure what caused it to happen. See attached picture.

Ah, this I did not know. Your best bet is to look for a powered hub, then.

Re: low usb power in cube

Apple Keyboards are not designed to provide USB power. I would say you should definitely get a hub, or get non-USB speakers. Make sure you plug the hub into the computer and not the keyboard.

Re: low usb power in cube

You got a low power warning plugging the iPod directly to the cube? That shouldn't happen I don't think, although I know that message will appear if you plug an iPod into the keyboard rather than computer itself.

Front Row on Mac Pro Options

I noticed that installing Leopard on my Mac Pro has given me Front Row... yay. But what options are available to me to use it? Bluetooth remotes? The Apple remote? Something else? Nothing? I have an older IR remote that attaches via a USB dongle but it requires unsightly software to work and I would...

Writing to NTFS Drives

A friend of mine has run into a bit of a snag with this el-cheapo media player thing he has, which is basically an external hard drive that can be attached to a television and play movies. It is formatted as NTFS I presume, because he cannot modify anything on it, only read it. He is trying to get s...

I'm not sure if those can be restored in the traditional sense of restoring PowerBook batteries. Aren't they lead-acid batteries?

Re: How to Remove Boot Camp Partition

Actually we eventually figured it out. It was quite easy with Disk Utility. Simply deleted the partition, then increased the partition size of Macintosh HD and clicked "Apply" - worked like a charm.

How to Remove Boot Camp Partition

I am working on my friend's MacBook and he has a 10 GB Windows partition created with Boot Camp, but his Boot Camp beta expired and he doesn't want the Boot Camp partition anymore anyway... but we can't figure out how to remove the partition and he could really use the extra 10 GB on his main partit...
