Re: Installing Windows Vista on Q

I don't like the idea of running Windows natively on my Mac. I've heard about people messing up partitions and corrupting their installations of Mac OS X. I've had experience with Parallels on other people's Macs, and it seemed just fine. I figured I'd download the free Q for myself and try it but i...

The most active place to buy and sell older Mac stuff is going to be the Low End Mac Swaplist:

Size Limits of External Enclosures?

I have this FireWire 400 external enclosure from Lacie that currently has an 80 GB hard drive in it. I am considering upgrading the ATA drive it contains, but am curious as to what, if any, limitations to drive size may exist in such a drive? How might one find out? Strangely, it doesn't have any mo...

Re: Best Windows on Mac Options

I actually would vote for Parallels first, simply because Parallels forms a "protective barrier" between the virtualized PC environment and the rest of your Mac. I've heard a lot of stories of people messing up the Boot Camp process, losing their Mac partitions, being unable to remove Windows, etc.....

MacBook Pro Battery Expansion

The battery in my MacBook Pro began expanding this week and is also no longer recognized by the computer - nor can it physically sit in the bay any longer. It is a first generation Core Duo (not 2 Duo) from like when the Intels first came out. I had checked the battery recall but mine isn't listed a...

Re: iMac Screen Dimness

I've heard of this before and I think I recall a permission repair did the trick. You can also try creating a new user account, logging in, and see if the same symptoms occur. This way you can pinpoint it as a problem specific to your account (and settings, or possible corruption thereof) or a globa...

Re: Best sub $500 consumer Mac

get a refurb core duo mac mini, I got the 1.83 for about $500 a few weeks ago, and if you don't care about the DVD burner a slower core duo would work equally well. I think I may have even seen lower prices. I was considering a Mac Mini as a spare computer for guests to use, or as a backup. I ended...

Why is Dreamweaver so slow!

Editing any pages that make heavy use of CSS really slows down Dreamweaver for me. It is incredibly frustrating that such a simple thing as editing an HTML document can bring four xeon processors to a crawl. Is there some sort of trick I'm missing to get it to perform well? How do people put up with...

Re: Perhaps info-mac's article on wikipedia should be updated

I guess I can try to bring it back into Wiki-standards. From the contributions I've made to Wikipedia in the past, I have a general feeling for what they approve and disapprove of.

Re: Help with Wireless Internet on a PowerBook 1400

What are your TCP/IP settings? Is your router set to distribute DHCP? If so, is your PowerBook gtting a good IP address (like 192.168.1.x) or a self-assigned, which would be like 67.234.something.blah

Re: Help with Wireless Internet on a PowerBook 1400

Is your wireless network encrypted? Have you manually typed in the SSID in the WaveLAN control panel? Does it give you any errors? Are you able to set the AppleTalk and TCP/IP control panels to the WaveLAN card?

I'm actually the one that wrote the original Wikipedia article before I came to acquire it. I don't think I should be editing it now, that would be a conflict of interest I think.

Feel free to take a crack at it.

I don't think you're going to find anything for Mac OS 9.

However Handbrake works great in Mac OS X.
