Re: Sticky windows

I've experienced this a few times myself, but it happens so rarely I never really thought about what causes it or what the solution might be. It sounds like it may be happening for you more than it does for me. I think I just change windows or use exposé or something and that usually brings it back ...

Re: Nice to have this back online!

Indeed, correspondence I've had with the MIT people gives me the impression they want to close it soon.

How to Grow Info-Mac

Once the initial flood of curious viewers coming from the Low End Mac article dies down (after the article is no longer on the front page) how else should we go about spreading the word that Info-Mac is here? We'll have to have a grassroots effort on this from everyone that has already joined, of co...

Re: mac cube upgrade

There are some sellers on eBay who sell cards and other upgrades specifically for the cubes.

As for memory, I always recommend OWC http://www.macsales.com

Re: radeon 9200 card removal

Ouch that does sound like quite a problem. What sort of haxies do you have installed on this system, if any? Is this an unsupported instal of Leopard by any chance? Regardless of what version it is, did you install Mac OS originally with only the PCI video card installed? (although that shouldn't re...

Well I'm considering getting one - I don't have one on hand right now, but it can be tedious to reach down and turn on the Mac Pro all the time.

So the blue and white is what you're having problems on? Or the QuickSilver?

Re: radeon 9200 card removal

What are you getting video on when it boots into Darwin?

I guess a better question would be what are you trying to achieve ultimately? Video on the 9200?

What machine is this?

The Info-Mac Gendergraphics Poll

Curious how the community builds up over time in ratio of males to females. Also a great way to test the poll system.

Re: Best classic writing software for students

Actually now that you mention it, the successor to ClarisWorks, AppleWorks 5, runs on 68k and PowerPC Macs running System 7 - Mac OS 9.

AppleWorks 6 requires a PowerPC and Mac OS 8.1, however.

Re: Best classic writing software for students

Sad to say I don't have much experience with educational or elementary software.

I barely knew what a computer was in the early 90s.

Post your Uniquely Special Photos

This photo is special for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it was taken by myself at the United 93 memorial, located at the crash site, which was surprisingly crowded. Secondly, the flag is backlit in a way that isn't oftenly seen in photos. Third, if you look closely you can see the moon in the sky. I...

Re: iMac weird password stuff

You've probably corrupted either your Keychain or your Administrator account password (I assume this is the admin account we're talking about?) Try this (you will lose any saved passwords in any program): ⋅ Boot from your Mac OS X restore DVD by inserting it into your iMac, restarting and ...

There are a few good sources of iWork templates, although it's hard to come across ones as good as the Apple ones. You can try these sites first: http://www.iworkusers.org/library/guest.html http://iworkcommunity.com/ There are also some really nice commercial templates available here: http://www.ju...

Intel Macs and Soft Power?

What would happen if I plugged in an old Apple Pro Keyboard or the USB iMac keyboards into my Mac Pro and pressed the keyboard soft power button?

Would they still start? Has anyone ever thought to try this? That would be extra handy on this floor mounted tower.
