Re: advice for splitting a movie vertically

This is doable with ffmpeg which is free but requires some command line knowledge, or you can create a project with a custom size in Adobe Premiere, export one half of your video and then the other half and you'd end up with the two files you'd need. If you'd like to upload the video somewhere that ...

Private Message Spam

We take spam very seriously here. It was just brought to my attention that spammers were circumventing our anti-spam measures by directly private messaging Info-Mac users messages full of spam, rather than attempting to post their spam in the public forum (which new users cannot do without moderatio...

Re: Flash not working in Safari

I'm on the latest version of Safari and see Flash fine. You can make sure you have the latest version of Flash by visiting https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ — be wary of add-ons they include with the installer.

You also want to make sure you have Flash enabled in Safari preferences (see screenshot).

Re: remove core Storage and return to Hard drive

Can you provide us with more details? If you merged your existing drive into a Core Storage "fusion drive" partition, you'll have to use file recovery software such as File Salvage to get anything back.

Re: Printer repairing permissions?

That's the only anti-malware program I actually have. Good time to ask - what is your stance on those real time scanner apps? There are no viruses like in Windows, but I've noticed how Mac community tends to split when it comes to advice if to install real time scanner or not. What would you advice...

Re: Printer repairing permissions?

Does that Canon driver download contain the software for scanning? I see it listed there, but not sure if it is downloadable. Should I should remove that software I got from CD just in case it it causes security issues? A separate scanner driver is listed there. I would try OS X's universal scanner...

Re: Printer repairing permissions?

Do you think CDs like these could be therefore harmful in some ways? Harmful, yes… in the sense that they won't have bug fixes or security patches that later versions you download from the manufacturer's website will. I did uninstall Gutenprint after it refused to work. Though why? Would it harm Ma...

Re: Printer repairing permissions?

I recommend never, ever using the CD that comes with a printer. Even when you buy a new printer, these CDs were likely printed many months prior and there is undoubtedly newer, updated drivers available on the website. I would also uninstall anything that you've attempted to install so far, includin...

Re: Printer repairing permissions?

Repairing permissions occasionally fixes problems with certain system errors but it's pretty rare these days that ever needs to be done. Why are you using Gutenprint and not your printer's OEM drivers? What kind of printer is this?

Re: Can .mp4 files be infected?

I really don't think it's possible for a legitimate video file to contain malware. Now if it's an application or script disguised as a video, that's another thing.

Re: Can .mp4 files be infected?

When in doubt, just download and run Malwarebytes Mac - the free version is on-demand scans only, not real-time protection, which I prefer anyways. I really don't know of a way for a video file that plays an actual video to contain malware.
