os 9.2.1 beige g3. i pulled my hd and installed the one i wanted to format and booted off a 9.2.1 cd

i tried os 10.4 but my machine would not boot. I forgot which drive has my os both are the same maker

cd rw the big floppy

is it possible to format a cd rw and use it like a big floppy. I know this can be done on a wintel, machine. But i have looked through toast etc and i am not sure it can be done on a mac how can this be!

I have a question about ide hard drives. their are ide-1 to ide-5 ata 33 to ata 133 etc. now if you buy a new hard drive they are ata/ide 133 so for example my quicksilver controller is a ata/ide 66, will putting the faster ata 133 hard drives work. this issue first started in an old beige g3 the ol...

no they are 100 meg disks
will a 250 meg drive read the 100 meg disks?

i also think that the drive that is giving me problems came from a wintel machine is their a difference?

the disk i reformated seams to work fine in the g3

but i take it to the b&w and it will not read it.

You are correct if when you format the drive you do not check the box for os9 drivers and you go back later the hard drive will not show up in os9. i know this because i have 2 hd's in my quicksilver the os x drive i did not check the os 9 driver box. So when i boot into os 9 the os x drive does not...

you were right with a bootable cd you just start up with the cd and perform a clean install and restart. I booted right back into os x no problem. I did not want to reinstall osx and all my software. alas all is well thanx for the encouragement.

no it was a statement I partitioned the hard drive into . i can go from os 8 to 9 or 10 by choosing the startup disk. but in os 10 I can only boot to os 9 from 9 I can go either way 10 or 8. i thought this was interesting. also i have been setting up mech warrior on the old g3 "my son loves this gam...

i have an os9 boot disk so I may give it a try

i know when you format the hd you have to check the box to allow os 9 installation or os9 will not recognize the drive so what the hack right.

ok i think i am screwed but here goes.

1 my cube hd is not partitioned
2 i want to put os9 classic on it
3 i only have os x currently installed

is their a way around reformatting the hd and installing os9 first?

you are correct i did plug it into the keyboard. with only 2 usb ports directly in the cube. one for keyboard other for speakers what would you do? i used my keyboard port on the quicksilver no problem.

What would be a good video card got my quicksilver dual 1 ghz machine. What i have been using is a 9200 pci card. I am convinced that the flashed 7500 has problems. I still use os 9.2.2 and osx.
