Re: Change from 3GS to 4G
When I switched from my old first generation iPhone to my 3GS, everything followed me. OTOH, a few apps (only a few) didn't translate to my iPad. There may be apps that don't work under iOS 4 or on the iPhone 4. There are also apps that no longer exist. One of my favorites, iSystem Info, no longer e...

Re: Mac Internet browsers
As a rule of thumb, it's a good idea to use software written by Apple on their computers. The integration with the OS is guaranteed to be more complete. That being said, I've never heard anything bad said about Firefox. I've just never had a reason to use it on OS X. I am, however using it on Ubuntu...

Re: Mac Internet browsers
The score can go up to 300 with bonus points being added for supporting things supported but not required by the current HTML5 specification.

Re: Mac Internet browsers
I just started using Safari 5 and I like it quite a lot. I especially like the new Reader feature. I also stumbled across a website that tests a browser's HTML5 capabilities. (html5test.com) I ran the few browsers (latest versions) I have here and checked their HTML5 capabilities and here is what I ...

Mac Internet browsers
I'm curious about Mac browsers. I've been using Safari since day one and I like it. I haven't any concerns that made me want to look at other browsers and I'd like to know why some people are motivated to look to others. FWIW, I also use Safari under Windows, not because I dislike IE, but just becau...

Re: Do you shut down your Macbook Pro when you are not using it?
I tend to never shut down my MBP for anything other the occasional troubleshooting.

Re: Mac software
I have found that over the past bunch of years the vast majority of my software has been purchased online, downloaded either directly from the developer or from a trusted site like versiontracker.com. The last two purchases that resulted in an actual physical disk that came out of a box were Apertur...

Re: Hard Drive Corruption
Jtalka, if you need to replace the drive, check ifixit.com for detailed instructions with pictures. That site has been a lifesaver for me. I used it to help me swap out the drives in four Mac laptops going back to an old iBook G3. The nice thing about the iMac is that it uses 3.5" drives which are a...

I believe you can use Pacifist to extract it from your original install disks.

Re: Hard Drive Corruption
I second both the recommendations for Disk Warrior and Other World Computing. Disk Warrior has cured problems that other software (most notably TechTool Pro) couldn't. Ive been using it since System 7.something and It's the only disk repair and recovery utility that has my complete confidence. If Di...

I'd be interested to see the results of this poll.
