Shockwave Problems

Post by tessd » August 18th, 2012, 2:23 pm

The other day I got notification that my Shockwave was not up to date. I downloaded the updated version, loaded it onto my Intel IMac, but still received the notice to update Shockwave from every site that I needed it for.

What gives?

My guess is that the "update your Shockwave software" notice was not actually from Adobe, but rather from a malware installer. This has been occurring to Flash and Shockwave users; presumably by now you've learned what to do.

Try searching for Flash and Shockwave malware detectors and cleaners. If not successful there, try uninstalling whatever files you find labeled Flash and Shockwave from your Internet Plug-ins folder (and remember to also look in your User Library) to entirely cleanse your computer of everything that might be related. You may not be successful... but look also in your Cache/Adobe, Launch Agents, Extensions and Prefs folders.

In either case, whether you removed the malware manually or with the help of detection/elimination software, you will eventually need to go back to Adobe's software website, and start over by installing fresh versions of Flash and Shockwave (if you want to).
