Dumb Professor

Post by skasmo » September 3rd, 2008, 1:04 pm

My professor told me today that all resumes should be sent in word format. I asked her what was wrong with sending it as a pdf. since it would be much more difficult for someone to steal or disrupt. She exclaimed that some companies have blocks on pdf files. I think she is a moron.

I agree, your professor is ignorant but then so many are. And even more important than the point you rose, the main benefit of PDF is that regardless of what operating system, what installed fonts, and what software a user may have, a PDF will open on anybody's computer without additional cost or risk of corruption.

You might try "showing her the light" by explaining all the benefits of PDF and why she and everyone else should use them.
I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do.

Hi! If I may ask...what is a PDF file? And is "Word" in referance to Microsoft Word? I'm a newby & just jumping on board in this new app! Needing to learn more About Mac's due to this New iPhone I just got. I like the idea, of showing or teaching another How Come Something Out There Could B Better/Safer even, for us all.

A PDF file is an extremely reliable method of sharing documents between all kinds of computers, devices, operating systems etc. It perfectly preserves formatting and fonts as originally intended, even if the reader doesn't have the original program used to create the document.

Word does refer to Microsoft Word, yes.

That's really inconsiderate and idiotic, considering there's people out there like oh I don't know ME who can't afford MS Word when PDF files are free.

PDF will always win over word in terms of convenience and flexibility. The professor should definitely be oriented on this. Hehe
