I don't understand this at all. I record analog sound on my
PowerBook using 16-bit 44.1kHz all the time. I've converted dozens
of old vinyl albums and cassette tapes to MP3 format and/or audio CD.
Under what circumstances are you experiencing Sound Manager problems?
And why are you using the Sony doohickey instead of the regular
sound-in jack? (Or do you have one of the newer boxes that doesn't
HAVE a regular sound-in jack?)

Subject: Converting TrueType from Windows to Mac format
I need to convert a TrueType font for writing Twi (a Ghanaian
language with special characters) from Windows to Macintosh.
I tried with Fontographer (from Macromedia) but then the font's
characters are shifted by one position (means, the "A" is at position
"@", the "B" is at position "A"). I then found TTConverter 1.5, and I
can drag the Windows font file over the application. But then I can't
open the font becaus the Mac says it is damaged.
What other possibilities do I have to convert this font and use it on
the Mac? I don't want to buy a Windows PC just for this.

Subject: Pop-up menu in Finder
I assumed that the OP meant that there was no easy way to go back up
the hierarchy in mid-drag or mid-hover. To access the header's
drop-down box, you have to first release the mouse then Command-click
the header. Definitely not something you'd want to do if you are
trying to drag a file to a target destination!
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it was SO much easier
under System 7 with PopupFolder. It turned your entire hard drive
into a hierarchical menu like the Apple Menu--easy to navigate, easy
to go anywhere in the hierarchy, no ugly Finder windows popping up in
random places and set to random views!

I have the same PowerBook and the same problem (I presume; we all
know the symptoms of dead PRAM). I called Apple to ask about it and
was told that it doesn't HAVE a replaceable PRAM battery in the same
sense that desktop Macs do. The PRAM battery in the WallStreet PB is
supposed to be permanent and rechargeable.
After jotting down and following instructions for how to trigger a
full recharge, I am still stuck with a PowerBook that loses its
parameter RAM (and Power Management) settings every time I unplug it
from the wall unless I keep a battery in one of the expansion bays,
something I was not in the habit of doing. I am now, though, since
I'm tired of resetting mouse, keyboard, AppleTalk, cursor flashing
rate, Date & Time, and other settings.
If you get useful information about replacing it, let me know!

my italian reseller got in contact with Apple and said that the PRAM
battery is available. Unfortunately it cost the equivalent of 50$+
service...

I don't understand this at all. I record analog sound on my
PowerBook using 16-bit 44.1kHz all the time. I've converted dozens
of old vinyl albums and cassette tapes to MP3 format and/or audio CD.
Under what circumstances are you experiencing Sound Manager problems?
And why are you using the Sony doohickey instead of the regular
sound-in jack? (Or do you have one of the newer boxes that doesn't
HAVE a regular sound-in jack?)

Subject: Converting TrueType from Windows to Mac format
I need to convert a TrueType font for writing Twi (a Ghanaian
language with special characters) from Windows to Macintosh.
I tried with Fontographer (from Macromedia) but then the font's
characters are shifted by one position (means, the "A" is at position
"@", the "B" is at position "A"). I then found TTConverter 1.5, and I
can drag the Windows font file over the application. But then I can't
open the font becaus the Mac says it is damaged.
What other possibilities do I have to convert this font and use it on
the Mac? I don't want to buy a Windows PC just for this.

Subject: Pop-up menu in Finder
I assumed that the OP meant that there was no easy way to go back up
the hierarchy in mid-drag or mid-hover. To access the header's
drop-down box, you have to first release the mouse then Command-click
the header. Definitely not something you'd want to do if you are
trying to drag a file to a target destination!
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it was SO much easier
under System 7 with PopupFolder. It turned your entire hard drive
into a hierarchical menu like the Apple Menu--easy to navigate, easy
to go anywhere in the hierarchy, no ugly Finder windows popping up in
random places and set to random views!

I have the same PowerBook and the same problem (I presume; we all
know the symptoms of dead PRAM). I called Apple to ask about it and
was told that it doesn't HAVE a replaceable PRAM battery in the same
sense that desktop Macs do. The PRAM battery in the WallStreet PB is
supposed to be permanent and rechargeable.
After jotting down and following instructions for how to trigger a
full recharge, I am still stuck with a PowerBook that loses its
parameter RAM (and Power Management) settings every time I unplug it
from the wall unless I keep a battery in one of the expansion bays,
something I was not in the habit of doing. I am now, though, since
I'm tired of resetting mouse, keyboard, AppleTalk, cursor flashing
rate, Date & Time, and other settings.
If you get useful information about replacing it, let me know!

my italian reseller got in contact with Apple and said that the PRAM
battery is available. Unfortunately it cost the equivalent of 50$+
service...
