This is one of the first OS X scripting additions (osaxen). Its impressive
command set includes regular expressions. Free.

Subject: [*] Smile 1.8.4

Smile is both an AppleScript editor for beginners, and an integrated
environment for AppleScript developers. It is scriptable, attachable (its
objects have scripts), recordable, and factored (internally scripted).

Smile is PPC-only. It uses Navigation Services and Appearance. Thus it
requires MacOS 8.5 or later, or Mac OS 8.1 with Navigation Services and the
Appearance Extension installed.

Of the several AppleScript editors available, this is the only one besides
Apple's Script Editor that's free. Smile is one of the two editors
available that support scripts larger than 32K.

This OS X-only version of the only free Applescript editor that supports
scripts larger than 32K has just been updated to support changes in OS 10.1.

Subject: [*] Startup Doubler 2.6.1J For Faster Start-Ups! - Japanese Version

This is the Japanese version of the Startup Doubler package.

Startup Doubler: for faster startups!

Startup Doubler makes for quicker startups: Its software acceleration
compensates for sub-optimal disk performance to make extensions, control
panel, the Finder and startup applications load faster.

Save time each time you startup your Mac!
Those seconds spent waiting really add up: Startup Doubler is the fastest
and easiest way to cut down the wait. Expect older Macs to startup 20% to
50% faster! The latest G3 and G4 Macs get less dramatic improvements as
they're already pretty fast, but if you have lots of Extensions, Control
Panels and Startup Items you can usually save 10 to 20 seconds at each
startup!

Version 2.6.1 adds support for Mac OS 9.2.1, in addition to a few other
changes.

Startup Doubler runs on Mac OS 9.2.1 and previous versions (going back to
System 7.0), and supports multiple extension sets. It is shareware, so
you can try it for free then buy only if you like it. Registered users of
previous versions may upgrade for free.

Subject: mp3 Disc at Once

Quick question...am I dreaming or is not possible to record mp3 as DAO?
I find lots of info about recording audio-cd files as DAO but all I read
about mp3 is that you can record them onto disc.

Sure, I've been doing that with Toast 3x and getting gaps. I don't mind
upgrading Toast but can't find anywhere where DAO mp3 recording is
supported or even possible.

TIA,
Rob

Subject: PCI - USB card

My friend has a PowerMac 7200/120 SCSI, which I believe has 3 PCI slots. He
is looking to buy a SCSI scanner but cannot locate one. Any ideas where he
could buy such an animal?; and what, if any, problems would be associated
by fitting a Belkin PCI-USB card and buying a USB scanner?

Subject: software for Old Matrix Slidewriter

I wonder if anyone out there can help me. I have an Old Matrix Slidewriter
Film Recorder which used to be connected to a Mac SE (thats how old it is).
The SE is dead and the software floppy is corrupted. I would still like
to use the recorder for Digital Art Student's files, but the company no
longer is in business. They sold to afga and then afga got out of film
recorder business. I can get new Film Magic Pro software for 950.00, but
this is not worth it for an old low res slidemaker. Anyone know of a
cheeper solution, or have an old copy of the Macintosh Afga/matrix "POM"
Professional output manager driver software or similar for a slidewriter
out there? My students would thank you.

Subject: software for USB pci card?

I have bought a Belkin 2 port USB pci card for a 333Mhz G3 desktop in order
to have a laserwriter with a USB connection work off of it. The G3 is
running OS 8.5. Do I need to install any software to make the card work? Has
anyone any experience with doing something like what I am about to do and
care to give any advice.

Thanks,
> Ezra
