350MHz G3/G4 or better running OS 9.1
CellSynth will run on a 233MHz G3 iMac with OS 8.5
CellSynth is NOT native to OS X but runs in Classic 9.1
The faster the Mac the more CellSynth can do!
Version 3.0 of Sound Manager.
Your Mac must be able to play stereo 16 bit audio at 44100.
A monitor capable of displaying 1000's of colours.
A sense of fun!

Short Description:
CellSynth is a software synthesiser, MP3 and AIFF sample player, DSP processor & sequencer combined

Description:
Sync Different! CellSynth addresses several of the main areas in computer music, notably audio synthesis, audio sequencing, sample manipulation, audio processing and automation sequencing. Unlike many of the more conventional software synthesisers on the market, it is compact and easy to use, and does not require detailed synthesis knowledge.

Its efficient design means that all functions operate in real-time with low latency, allowing it to be used in a live environment with MIDI keyboards or other MIDI sources. All output can be recorded to disk for use in other software such as MOTU's Digital Performer, EMagic's Logic or Steinberg's Cubase VST.

CellSynth is unusual in catering for both musical beginner and expert alike. Whilst the program is easy and intuitive to use, with an on-line manual and tutorial, those with prior knowledge of synthesis are not left frustrated - Best of all it's shareware!

New Features in version 1.6:
CellSynth 1.6 includes the new Step Sequencer Cell. This provides a simple sequencer with up to 16 patterns each with up to 32 steps. It can be used to output modulation and/or MIDI notes. The CellSynth Matrix can run several Step Sequencer Cells simultaneously.

-Keyboard shortcut to show the cell number in the matrix window
-MIDI record mode for step sequencer
-Modulation inputs to step sequencer
-Legato mode to steps in step sequencer
-Cursor mode option for dials

Subject: [*] Clean-Install Assistant 1.5.2J - Japanese Version

This is the Japanese version of the Clean-Install Assistant package.

Clean-Install Assistant makes it easier to migrate third-party and
personal items to a new Clean-Installed System Folder, and it may also be
used to:

*Save space and backup your valuable additions and preference files
only, instead of the whole System Folder.
*Install the same set of additions on multiple Macs.
*Remove extra files and folders from your System Folder to restore it
to a previous state: you can take a "snapshot" of the System Folder
and have Clean-Install Assistant extract any items added since.

v1.5.2 allows moving files from Mac OS 9.2.1 to a newer Mac OS version, or
to/from 9.2.1 and previous versions.

It is free for personal and educational use.

Subject: [*] Folder Lister 1.0

Folder Lister 1.0

Drop a folder on Folder Lister's desktop icon. It produces a text file on
your desktop containing a formatted, recursive list of the files and folders
within the folder selected.

Invisible files and folders are clearly labelled. Files are listed with
their creator/file types and size. File names with trailing return
characters (such as "Icon\r") are marked with "¼".

Apologia: This is one of the first programs anyone who learns the Mac
toolbox will write. I've written it myself at least three times, over the
years, counting this one. Now that the "Classic" environment is dying out
(slooooowly...) I just wanted to have it around, in my bag of tricks.

I don't actually USE it often, but when I do, it's probably either to create
an inventory of files, or to search for odd stuff hiding on my system (like
Internet Explorer's invisible "Date Preferences", as in how kinky you prefer
your internet content, not whether you want DAY-MONTH-YEAR dates).

Folder Lister can list about 25,000 files & folders (4 Gb) in about 90
seconds, on this iBook 2000 at least.

Requires PowerPC, Macintosh OS 7.5 or better, OS 9.2.1 recommended.
Freeware. Absolutely no support. No warranty express or implied. IT'S
FREEWARE.

You can drag from the list to the Finder to move or copy the application, or
to make an alias of it. (Done by holding down the standard Finder modifier
keys).
You can drag a file from the Finder to the list and have it opened by the
application it is dropped on.

SmartLaunch is freeware

This is the Japanese version of the URL Manager Pro package.

"In the shareware arena, my pick is URL Manager" - Adam C. Engst

"You have got me addicted" - Henry Norr, San Francisco Chronicle

"A must have for serious Web users" - Tucows rating: 5 out of 5

"It's a polished, professional-standard application packed with useful
features, neat shortcuts and quality design. Brilliant." - MacFormat UK.

URL Manager Pro is a repository for your favorite Internet addresses or
URLs (Uniform Resource Locators). URL Manager Pro allows you to organize
and collect URLs in a hierarchical structure. Organizing bookmarks
between and within folders is easy with Drag & Drop. Drag HyperText
links from your Web Browser to the URL Manager Pro window to add a URL
to the repository. To go to a URL, Drag & Drop a bookmark to the window
of a Web Browser or double click.

URL Manager Pro adds tight integration with Navigator, Explorer, iCab,
Anarchie, Fetch, NetFinder, Claris Emailer, Outlook Express and Eudora.
With URL Manager Pro you can add bookmark menus to the menu bar of these
applications. Also, URL Manager Pro adds the URL Manager shared icon
menu to the menu bar. With this menu you can create bookmarks for Web
Pages from --within-- Navigator, Explorer, iCab, Add Notes, Grab All
URLs on a Web Page or in an E-Mail message, and explore the Internet
with a predefined set of Search Engines.

What's New in 2.8

URL Manager Pro 2.8 is an update of the popular bookmark manager. In
particular, the audience of this version is Mac OS 8 users. Mac OS 9 and
Mac OS X users are advised to start using URL Manager Pro 3.0, which is
a Carbon application.

URL Manager Pro 3.0 requires Mac OS 9 and therefore Mac OS 8 users can
not use it. URL Manager Pro 2.8 makes sure that Mac OS 8 users still can
profit from the improvements made to URL Manager Pro's code as we move
along to Mac OS X. URL Manager Pro 2.8 fixes bugs, but also adds new
features (see below).

URL Manager Pro 2.8 requires Mac OS 8.1 or higher. If you are still
running Mac OS 8.0, you should have no problem downloading the Mac OS
8.1 update from Apple.

Subject: [A] overbar and overdot

I find it frightening that none of the respondents to this question can
remember anything before Microsoft Office. Here is how to do overstrike
characters in Word 3 and Word 4.

Look for "formulas" in the Help menu. It will tell you all this, and more.

To get "x-overdot" do the following.
(It works best if you activate "show " in the edit menu,
although this is not always essential.)
Hold and type \, followed by "O(x,.)". (That's capital O;
quotation marks not to be typed; is the apple key.)
It is then necessary to make "." into a suitably high superscript.
Deactivate "show " in the edit menu, and you should then
see your "x-overdot".

Once you have successfully created your overbar and overdot characters, you
will probably want to store them in a file, and copy one whenever you need
to use one of them.

Microsoft never made things easy for the user!

Subject: dilemma -cd-rw or hard drive

i was all set to buy a cd-rw for backup and then someone suggested to buy
another hard drive and hook it up externally to back up
i have a g3 wallstreet that has scsi ports/os9.1
and a ibook that is usb 9.0 that i use occassionally
right now i am backing up on zip disks
if i bought a cd-rw i was going to get a buscard to make the g3 firewall and
buy a cd-rw that is both usb and firewall
which is better an external hard drive or a cd-rw for backup?

Subject: help in finding driver

Hello>

I've just bought through e-bay a LaserWriter II NT and am trying to locate a
driver for it but can't seem to find anything in the Apple site. The only
thing that I have downloaded is something called Laserprep, which is a 4K
item that I cannot open. Can anyone tell me from where I can download the
driver that I will put over the System folder which should then tell me it
needs to be placed in the Extensions folder, and once in there I will be
able to choose it in the Chooser... Or is my thinking all wrong?

Thanks,
> Ezra

Subject: Need recent Mac for Excel speed test

I'm finishing up a scientific paper based on some simulation
experiments I've been running in Excel. The office is Windows-only,
so I did all the work on a Pentium, but I'd like to do some stealth
evangelism while fighting the megahertz myth. The idea is I say the
program runs in 12 minutes on a Windows machine and 10 minutes (or
so) on a Mac.

So, I'm looking for a few people with Macs of 300 MHz or better and a
recent copy of Excel. I'll e-mail you the spreadsheet with the
simulation program, you press control-shift-option-M to invoke the
macro, let it run until it's finished, and mail me back the sheet (it
automatically saves timing info with the results). If you're
interested, e-mail me please with info on what kind of Mac you have.

TIA.
