Eridanus has released Baker 1.1. Baker is an OS X utility used to

as many newsgroups as you like without having to worry about losing all

This is an update to DatedFolder.script 2.5.
The DatedFolder.script package contains both a run-only AppleScript Applet
and a compiled script that do the same thing: create a new folder in a
user-defineable location and then set the name of the new folder to the
current day's date.
Version 2.6 corrects a *major* embarrassing bug that resulted in the
inability to select a non-Desktop location to create the DatedFolder. Many
thanks to George Spiese for pointing out the error.
Requires the following scripting additions (osaxen): Akua Sweets 1.43, Jon's
Commands 2.2.1, and Standard Additions (Mac OS 9.2.1).

29 November 2001 - version 1.1 added prefs for including types and sizes
Abstract:
Drop a folder on Folder Lister's desktop icon. It produces a text file on
your desktop containing a formatted, recursive list of the files and folder=

within the folder selected.
Invisible files and folders are clearly labelled. Files are listed with
their creator/file types and size. File names with trailing return
characters (such as "Icon\r") are marked with "=AC".
Apologia: This is one of the first programs anyone who learns the Mac
toolbox will write. I've written it myself at least three times, over the
years, counting this one. Now that the "Classic" environment is dying out
(slooooowly...) I just wanted to have it around, in my bag of tricks.
I don't actually USE it often, but when I do, it's probably either to create
an inventory of files, or to search for odd stuff hiding on my system (like
Internet Explorer's invisible "Date Preferences", as in how kinky you prefer
your internet content, not whether you want DAY-MONTH-YEAR dates).
Folder Lister can list about 25,000 files & folders (4 Gb) in about 90
seconds, on this iBook 2000 at least.
Requires PowerPC, Macintosh OS 7.5 or better, OS 9.2.1 recommended.
Freeware. Absolutely no support. No warranty express or implied. IT'S
FREEWARE.

Drop a folder on the desktop icon. Folder Flattener Lite will compress and
encipher your folder and all files and subfolders within, creating a backup
file suitable for uploading to Internet storage servers. Double-clicking
the .=FEat file will restore the entire folder to the location you select.
Does not delete sources unless the Option key is depressed (normally, a
pretty cheerful key.) Small, stable, fast, secure.
Requires PowerPC, Macintosh OS 7.5 up to 9.2.1. I have not tested in the
Mac OS X "Classic" environment yet.
Freeware. Some assembly required (your codebook, see below). Absolutely no
support. If you lose track of your codebook, or if it is damaged, your .at
files will be beyond my resources to restore.

Discussion:
Compression by zlib 1.1.3. 'Nuff said.
By default, the codebook option is turned off. If you turn it on:
You will need to select a codebook, instead of a password. Any large
compressed file greater than 5 Mb in size will do. You may put an alias to
your codebook in Folder Flattener's own folder, eliminating the need for
further attention.
Encryption is provided by an elementary stream cipher which is difficult for
me to assess with any degree of confidence. Because of the large state
space, balanced by the unsophisticated 1-byte encryption (this is the entire
bitsmear algorithm: XOR), I think the cipher may be about as secure as DES,
if that. It's a bit more than kid sister proof, certainly.
In any case, Folder Flattener Lite does NOT incorporate or use strong
encryption code such as Rijndael, Serpent or TwoFish. The full version of
Folder Flattener DOES incorporate Brian Gladman's Rijndael code, but after
the events of 9/11, there is no way I could justify releasing a tool that
sharp-edged. Source for the stream cipher is included.

This is the English version of the shareware Holiday Lights screen saver
and desktop application for Macintosh.
Holiday Lights places flashing light bulbs around the edge of your

IE Cache Trasher deletes a file called "download cache" which can get quite big if you do not watch it. This file stores incomplete and complete downloads (the latter only if you set IE to remember your last completed downloads). It can grow to enormous proportions; mine was 119 MB the first time I checked!
What s New?
IE Cache Trasher has been known in the past as IE Download Cache Cleaner, an earlier version with fewer options.
In this version, it not only deletes the download cache, but also displays a dialog telling you that the download cache isn t present if it isn t in its regular place!

NetFinder was the first FTP client to use the Finder hierarchy listing
paradigm. With an intuitive user interface that everyone is familiar

Whenever I download an archive which StuffIt Expander (any version,
though mine is currently 6.5.1) post-processes, the
decoding/expansion is done in the foreground. Is there any way to
have this function as a background process? I'd like to avoid being
interrupted by Expander's coming to the fore...

Subject: Netscape 6 woes
Hi.
I "upgraded" from Netscape 4.x to Netscape 6, and I'm less than thrilled
with the results. I've also tried the latest Mozilla; ditto.
I would like to downgrade again. The problem is that my user profile is
now a Netscape 6 profile. I would like to translate it back into a
Netscape 4 profile. Does anybody know how to do this?
Alternatively, is there some way to have Eudora or Outlook Express
(etc.) import a Netscape 6 mail setup? to have Internet Explorer or
Opera (etc.) import Netscape 6 bookmarks, cookies, and the like?

Subject: remove Info-Mac aliases from Eudora mailboxes
Whenever I open an Info-Mac digest attachment within Eudora 5.1, an
alias to the digest mailbox is created at the root level of my
mailboxes. I'd like to prevent the generation of the alias or
automate the removal of them. Any ideas?
Note: I'd prefer to continue to "receive MIME digests as attachments".
