Go to the Keyboard control panel and ensure that you have a British keyboard
selected (that will get you the pound sign Ãú [shift-3]). Then type

The idea is "damage prevention" - disk errors can go unnoticed,

Unfortunately, the Finder can not open files/applications in the background, and the app must launch in order to process info if it is not already open. The best way to handle this is to put a copy of an alias in your startup folder, and set the parameters of the "Watch Folder". That way, whenever something comes into your watch folder, it will be processed in the background...

Subject: Exporting an address book to a PC
Hi,
It is not always easy to play with address books and transfer the infos from
different programs or between platforms.
Entourage and Outlook have a nice export feature. You can open the exported
file in Excel, do some maintenance, then create a .CSV. A lot of things are
working with .csv on the PC side. You can also open the file in Word and
save it in .txt Be careful about what is separating the fields. It is
either a ; or a , Do some testing.
On the PC side, Outlook and Outlook Express can import a .csv or a .txt.
Perhaps, you will have to substitute ; for , or vice versa. There is an
importing option where you can use OTHER files. Pick the .txt Do not use
long complicated title for this .txt. Use import.txt for example.
Be careful however about special caracters like ˆ, ˆ, ‡, € and so on that
you have on the original Mac. ASCII code will get mixed up for those
caracters. It is better to do a cleanup of the Excel file doing search and
replace.

Just a word of warning! Whereas the earlier EZQuest CD-RW 16x10x40
drive models carried a TEAC mechanism, which was qualified by Dantz
Retrospect Express for backup use, current models have a LITE-ON
drive which is not yet qualified by Dantz. Don't be fooled, as I was!

Pete, this seems to be dependent on my removal of the message. I WANT
the message (and the attachment/digest), I just don't want the alias
that's created at the top level of my mailboxes.
To clarify - I want to open the mail, scroll down to the attachment,
open the attachment as a mailbox of individual messages, read the
individual messages, close the mailbox/attachment/digest, close the
original message to which the digest was an attachment, and keep them
all. I do NOT want the entry that's being created automatically at
the top level of my mailboxes which is an alias to the attachment.
Or, I want to automatically delete said aliases.

I have been using EUDORA Mac for years. The PGP addition was why I used it
instead of Outlook Express. Now, however I am using Entourage which came
with Office 2001 and I like it a lot. I can use PGP with it.
I was thinking about selling my Eudora 5.1 registered for which I paid the
fee. However, I recently installed it on the PC and the registration number
for 5.1 worked! Using Eudora on the PC is better then Outlook Express
including less virus attacks. The interface is the same for Mac and PC
except a few differences.
Those guys are great! Support them, they deserve it!

Subject: USB Webcam Remote Surveillance Software
Could anyone tell me if there is a Mac software that I can use to set up
a USB camera connected to a Mac for use as a remote surveillance system
with features such as:
Ç remote monitoring through modem, TCP/IP
Ç send message to pager or pre-recorded .AV file to telephone
Ç remote monitoring with Web browser
I've seen Windows softwares that have the above features but would
prefer to implement the surveillance system on a Mac if possible.
Any help would be appreciated.
