You'll need to use Quicktime (Pro?) to export the .mov files to 'DV Stream'
format - which iMovie will then recognise. Once you've done your business in
iMovie; it allows you to export back to .mov format.

I see the Pound symbol in your subject heading. So you should check to see
which font you are using to read your email with in your email application
as that is your problem with that. Also what OS are you using and how is
your keyboard set up? I use Eudora and I have my font set to Nu Sans and it
works fine for me on a US System and US Keyboard.

As for the Euro symbol "ñ", it is shift-option-2, that is hold the shift
key down and the option key down and type a 2 [the one found on the top row
numbers on US key boards anyways].

It is very important that you are using a font that has the symbol! Geneva
& Helvetica & Arial [my old versions] don't have the Euro, but Nu Sans has
it for example.

Subject: [*] [Disk Watcher 1.0.6] Automatically check disks for corruption

"Disk Watcher" fully automates Disk First Aid to check your disks for
corruption. Results are logged. What action to (automatically) take
when a disk problem is found is 100% customizable!

The idea is "damage prevention" - disk errors can go unnoticed,
resulting in even more errors until finally things go really wrong.
Checking your disks on a regular basis is just good "disk-keeping".
Disk Watcher automates that for you.

Use:
The Disk Watcher installer will put everything in place. It gives you
the option to have Disk Watcher launched on every startup, or just once
per day at startup. Alternatively you can have a cron launch it at
whatever interval you deem appropriate.

- Disk Watcher allows you to exempt disks from being checked based on
the kind of disk (locked, ejectable) and/or based on the disk's name.
- Disk Watcher allows you to have your own custom actions take place
(which can even overrule Disk Watcher's default action) when a disk
problem is found. Such an action might be to automatically launch
another disk repair utility, but may also be to launch your own home
grown scripts... Powerful stuff!

System Requirements:
- Works under Mac OS 7.5 through 9.2.1
- Disk First Aid 8.2 or higher
- AppleScript needs to be enabled

History:
- 1.0.6 - Fixed minor bug (undefined variable) & tweaked installer a
bit more for Mac OS 9.2.2
- 1.0.5 - Under some cirumstances version 1.0.4 could run into a fatal
error. Fixed.
- 1.0.4 - Now compatible with Mac OS 9.2.2
- 1.0.3 - Fixed a problem with large, full disks
- 1.0.2 - Fixed a few small bugs and included latest version of "The Dailies"
- 1.0.1 - First public release

Pricing and payment:
Disk Watcher is $10,- non-crippled shareware with a free 30-day trial period.
Payment is handled by Kagi.

Coffee Break Pro is an application designed to prevent (or improve)
repetitive stress injuries (such as carpal tunnel syndrome). It does
this by making the user take periodic breaks. It also provides some
basic user activity data, such as key presses or mouse clicks per second.

Coffee Break Pro is shareware ($20 US).

Coffee Break Pro requires System 7.6.1 or later to run. Use of custom
pictures during breaks (see the documentation for details) may require
allocating more RAM to Coffee Break Pro.

Coffee Break Pro is not MacOS X-native. It may run in the classic
environment, but this has not been tested. A MacOS X version of Coffee
Break Pro may be possible at a later date.

Subject: [*] Colibricks: new version 1.4.0 for MacOS 8,9,X

Colibricks version 1.4.0 now runs much more smoothly under
MacOS X. Some problems with resolution switching on certain
systems have also been solved. You can now see the level score
instead of the total score by holding down the control key.

Colibricks is an exciting brick game for the Macintosh. It is
native for MacOS X, but includes a version for MacOS 8/9 too.
The goal of the game is to destroy all bricks using one or more
balls. Unlike other brick games, it features accurate ball
behaviour, using very precise physical laws. Balls bounce off
corners correctly, and even bounce with each other. And instead
of boring horizontal grids, Colibricks features rotated bricks,
even making circles and spirals with them. Graphics are
antialiased with beautiful backgrounds.
Of course, it's also a lot of fun. With special kinds of bricks
that activate special effects or spawn prize balloons. Balls can
grow or shrink to any size.
The demo lets you play 6 levels of various difficulties. After
registering, you'll get access to all 50 levels.

System requirements:
PowerPC processor with at least 200 MHz (includes any iMac)
MacOS 8, 9 or X.

Have you wondered how much free space you had on the different drives
that are mounted on your MacOS system? Wonder no longer. Drive Monitor
displays a window that lists the vitals for all of the currently
mounted drives.

Requires Mac OS 8.5 with Carbon or newer. Runs native under OS X.

Well, lets see.... What does it do?
-Sort by whatever field you want
-Only show the fields that you are interested in
-Displays the names of all mounted volumes
-Displays the size of each of the volumes
-Displays the amount of free space on each volume
-Turns the entry for a volume red (default color) if it exceeds a user
defined threshold
-Indicates if a volume is locked.
-Displays the volume's icon
-Show a "thermometer" summary of the drive information

Picture-in-Picture X is a floating QuickTime movie player. It plays movies
on an always on top window. It enables users to watch their favorite movies
while they work on other applications.

Picture-in-Picture X is very easy to use. Users simply drag and drop movie
files or folders on to its window, and it plays the movies one by one
automatically.

Users can also watch QTV channels easily. Picture-in-Picture X includes
information about many of QTV channels. Users just press the 'QTV' button,
and choose their favorite channel.

Picture-in-Picture X knows users don't always need those control buttons and
menus. It automatically hides controls when users switch to other
applications.

Picture-in-Picture X resizes its window to keep the aspect ratio of the
playing movie correct. It knows where its window should be. It 'sticks'
the window to the screen corner where it was.

Supported Languages
- English
- Traditional Chinese

System Requirements
- Mac OS X 10.0

Jean-Thomas,

If you mean 40 Mb/8Mb, then as far as I know, you're out of luck- and
a powerbook 170 may be too old, anyway.

I currently run Linux off of a partition of my Mac, so they get along
quite nicely (although of course you must boot into one or the other),
but I believe that a minimum install is 500 Mb. I have a beige G3 desktop.

Take a look at http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/ or http://linuxppc.com
or http://www.suse.com/index_us.html

You can download most distributions for free, or you have to buy the
CD. a floppy? No way!

Sorry!

In os x, I've used the gcc compiler to get open source academic
free programs working on my mac. This was very exciting to me. Os x is a
unix environment. Now that I've graduated I am not allowed to use my old
university unix system. It will be fun to go into the computer lab with my
own unix system and swap shop. I will get wisdom from other people as well

Good luck.

You will get the alias, but one can get rid of the files easier. I use
KeyQuencer and a set of 3rd party additional KQ Extensions and a macro that
I wrote for Eudora to make it as painless as possible.

Also if one wanted to write an AppleScript that got rid of the alias, you
could do that. I wouldn't try to run the AppleScript unless you were going
to quit Eudora though as Eudora wonn't update its Mailbox menu until you
restart Eudora.

You could have AppleScript delete the files and then quit Eudora or quit
and then restart Eudora for you if you would like.

I like that KQ approach as I don't want to quitting Eudora and I do want
the menu updated, so I use KQ to automate the Eudora dialog boxes for me.

Those are the two basic approaches that I know of, use AppleScript or use a
Macro application or somthing to do the Dialog boxes for you.

There is a site, really!:

http://digester.et.tudelft.nl/search.html

You can browse the posts too:

http://digester.et.tudelft.nl/frames01/

But in 2002 I expect it to change into:

http://digester.et.tudelft.nl/frames02/
