Digital Diary (version 2.2) allows fingertip access to the activity history
and current status of any project, with the added ability to view all
activities on all projects on any particular day. On a complex project,
there could be a dozen or more separate issues being dealt with
simultaneously, each with its own distinct status and decision stream.
Digital Diary helps keep track of all this by providing a convenient way of
recording and automatically organizing this information. While most personal
information managers focus on scheduling and contacts management, Digital
Diary focuses on keeping an organized record of your activities and
decisions, allowing you quick and easy retrieval of a project's history.
Versatile report generation can organize your data in any manner you choose.

System requirements:
68k and PPC Mac running System 7 and up, including OS9.
Price: $20

The demo will allow 75 notes to be entered, after which the note recording
function will be disabled until the ID code is entered. The ID code is
delivered by the author by e-mail within 24 to 36 hours after payment has
been made through one of several on-line software distributors or to the
author directly.

Subject: [*] DropDate 68K 1.0

Welcome to DropDate. This simple utility presents a one-month calendar in a
global floating window that can appear above the windows of any application.
You can change the year by pressing the UP and DOWN arrows and select the
month from a popup menu. It can, therefore, serve as a simple calendar on
your desktop.

However, DropDate does more than just show a calendar. You can drag-and-drop
the long form (with weekday, of course) of any date into any application
that accepts text drops by starting the drag from the desired calendar cell.

Why DropDate?

One of the minor annoyances of life is receiving a message announcing some
event on some date, such as "We will have a picnic on June 7, 2001." This
immediately sends the receiver looking for a calendar to find out what day
of the week June 7 falls on.

Wouldn t it be nicer if all senders took the trouble to put the weekday in
their messages? For instance, "We will have a picnic on Thursday, June 7,
2001." A few do this, but sometimes end up making mistakes that result in
further, "Oops!" messages.

I wrote DropDate to help me be a good citizen-communicator. Entering the
date with correct weekday is as simple as dragging the desired date and
dropping it in the target window.
------
** DropDate is freeware; it may be used and distributed freely, including
by storing it on file servers and magazine, user group and Info-Mac CDs. I
retain the title, ownership rights, intellectual property rights, and all
other legal rights. **

If you re having problems using DropDate, contact me and I will do what I
can to fix them. If you like DropDate and find it useful, I will appreciate
receiving email from you at

Subject: [*] GnuGo Mac Pack 0.5

The GnuGo Mac Pack offers two ways of playing the game of Go (also known as
Igo, Baduk, and WeiQi) on any Macintosh (68k or greater, system 7 or
greater): The GnuGo way, which is an _anymac_ compile of version 2.6 of the
GnuGo program developed by the Free Software Foundation (see
www.gnu.org/software/gnugo/ for more information), or the Mac way, which
offers a GUI interface to play go against your Mac using the GnuGo engine.

MacGnuGo 0.5 (the Mac way) offers 10 levels to the GnuGo engine, fancy
board patterns and stones, and atari, capture, pass, and stone click
sounds. You can watch moyo and your dragon status change in real time, as
you move. You can play against GnuGo, yourself, watch GnuGo play itself,
get hints, and get your current score .

MacGnuGo 0.5 is freeware, and is free code. The source code is included.
GnuGo 2.6, the engine, is free code as well. See
www.gnu.org/software/gnugo/ or the README file for more info.

Requirements:
At least 16 Megs available (I know, it's huge. I'll fix this somehow.)
System 7 or greater
A Mac!

MacGnuGo 0.5 is far from finished yet, but very playable. I wanted people
out there to know that there's to be a front end to GnuGo for the Mac. So
Enjoy!

Subject: [*] GrafEq 2.10 PPC - Mathematical relation graphing software

Here is a fully-functional evaluation copy of GrafEq 2.10 PPC, a
program for graphing, and exploring, mathematical relations. It is
designed to be used for learning and teaching high school math.

Some of the new features: (for 2.10)

* A French language interface is now available.

* Sub-pixel computations are now performed using a multi-grid / recursive
method instead of a regular grid / iterative method (with progressively
finer grids / step-sizes). For some common graphs, such as y=logx over
[-10,10] x [-10,10], verification efficiency has consequently improved by
several orders of magnitude.

* Better graphing of formulae containing common sub-expressions, especially
when discontinuous operators are involved: see
http://www.peda.com/grafeq/gallery/decimal_squares.html
for an example.

* Rich Text Format (RTF) encapsulation of formulae is now supported; this can
help word processors vertically place formulae exported via the clipboard.

* Exported views can now be exported as JIF or PCX files. See
http://jeff.cafe.net/jif for more information about JIF.

GrafEq 2.10 PPC requirements: Any PowerPC Macintosh

Please send any questions, comments, or other feedback to us at
peda@peda.com. The GrafEq web site starts at:

http://www.peda.com/grafeq

The included files may be redistributed via shareware CD-ROMs and
shareware ftp servers and shareware web sites as long as they are not
modified in any way.

Subject: [*] QuickTTest 1.6

QuickTTest is a statistical programme for calculating means, SEMs and
SDs and for carrying out Student's t-test on the data. Its main
advantage over other programmes is that data can be entered not only as
individual data values but also as mean˜SEM or mean˜SD.
Data can be entered not only from the keyboard but also by importing
from a text file. Data and calculated results can be saved in a text
file for editing with a word processor.

Changes in this version
Version 1.6 records the degrees of freedom in the t-test output window
and in saved or printed files.

Requirements
QuickTTest runs on any Mac with any system from 7.6 up to and including
9.1. The programme is freeware.

I give permission for QuickTTest 1.5 to be included on any commercially
available CD-ROM

RPN Calculator is a simple yet robust RPN calculator for MacOS.
It features a scalable interface via function palettes, a base converter
window that can sync its input with the calculator's stack and the ability
to handle complex numbers in every function that makes sense (e.g. not in
factorial, int, frac, etc.). The calculator also features a 100 element
stack and 8 user memories, all of which can survive a relaunch, if desired.

Just when you think Apple has cornered the market on cool (with
the PowerBook G4 Titanium), they up the ante by releasing the tiny
iBook (Dual USB). Which would you choose? In local news, the
Washington State Supreme Court upholds the state's anti-spam law,
which reminds us: what ever happened to TidBITS's spam suit? Also,
we pass on news of an AppleScript worm, a Microsoft Word macro
security fix, and a Handspring rebate, plus we welcome Sustainable
Softworks as a new TidBITS sponsor.

Subject: OS 9.1

I just upgraded from OS 8.6 to OS 9.1 and have run into a problem,
or at least a difference between thwe two, that is frustrating. With 8.6 I
was able to access other applications while one was "working" (i.e. a
download was progressing while I was typing a letter) With OS 9.1 I find
that the download ceases or stalls until I quit the other application.
Is this correctable or am I stuck with it?

I'd like to know who (which Mac on the office ethernet network) is on

Can you suggest me some software (maybe shareware)?

Thanks!
