Subject: (Q) Postscript printer on OS X
So I'm slowly migrating across to OS X.
Recently I tried to print from Appleworks on OS X and could not see my
AppleTalk connected Laserwriter IIg. The EPSON Stylus printer on the USB
port is on the list, but the AppleTalk printer on the Printer Port is not
available.
So, I read the instructions, visited Help, trolled the AppleCare
Knowledge Base and came up empty. What I have done is use the Network
and Sharing and Printer utility with all the step by step instructions I
could find. AppleTalk is active. Modem port is unselected, Printer is
selected and Ethernet is also selected in the Preferences dialogue.
I walk through the "ADD Printer" dialogues using all the choices
available (both the "automatic" and the pop-up listing of PPDs) and
nothing happens. If I manually choose Laserwriter IIg from the list and
click ADD I get nothing on the list. I read KBase docs 106260 and 106613
and still I can't figure out what's at fault.
Printing is fine on OS 9.2.2 both the Laserwriter serial and EPSON USB.
I don't know if it's just me or if this is something other people have
experienced. I visited OS X Hints site (very nice resource) but nothing
turned up.
Any help is appreciated. Reply here if you think it will help others, or
at my e-mail address if it's just some small solution everyone but me
understands.

Until now, there has been no complete Mac solution for editing Quake
textures (the graphic images which make up the walls and objects in level
maps). Wadtool fills a long-awaited niche, in providing superior control
over all aspects of texture editing. Wadtool unleashes the graphic artist

graphics in all single-player and multi-player Quake maps the user

Word Find is a program that creates word find (aka word search) puzzles. It
allows words to be entered directly into the program or imported from a text
file.
Word Find allows the user to customize the puzzle by selecting the size of the
puzzle, the font to be used, the directions the words can be hidden in, and the
size of font. The method that is used to hide the words in the puzzle can also be
selected to create a puzzle where the words are as interconnected as possible or
sparsely interconnected.
Word Find also allows the user to select which characters are to be used in the
puzzle. Any ASCII character can be selected as valid. This allows the user to
make puzzles using non-English fonts, or puzzles using symbols or numbers.
Word Find provides capabilities to print the puzzle or save it to a file. Files
created by Word Find are text files that can be directly imported into any word
processor. The puzzle image can also be copied as a PICT image, to be pasted into
another word processor or drawing program. Printing options include the ability
to put a title on the puzzle and/or print a field for filling in a person's name
(particularly useful for Teachers).
Version 1.5 now features:
- Support for Drag & Drop
- Support for the Appearance Manager when drawing the progress bar while
hiding words
- Uses only letters entered in the words when the "Use for filling unused
spaces" preferences option is not selected
- Minor changes to the splash screen and "About..." screens
- Some bug fixes
Version 1.5 is now a fat binary.

I beg to differ. I have done multiple session burns on a Pee Cee
using Easy CD creator, on Windoze 98. However, I agree that some
applications will only see the first burn. There may be a problem on
Windows 95 with a multiple session CD, though. Fortunately, I
haven't had to spend a lot of time on either system, so I am not a
guru on this subject.

Subject: Big 9.1 and OS-X install problem
Couple of possibilities:
1) There were several firmware updates, you may be missing one of the
later ones.
2) On an early iMac, the OS MUST be installed in the FIRST 8 GBytes
of the HD. Specifically, I do not think it will install in a
partition larger than 8 GBytes. I suspect that is your problem. If it
is, then you will need to reformat your hard drive with one 8 GB
partition (as many others as you like). Make sure the 8 GB partition
is the FIRST partition in the partition map as an added precaution.

When I download iPhoto I get a file named iPhoto.dmg. How do I install the
application from this file?
