downloads, segmented (accelerated) downloading, Internet browsers

X Ball is a next generation brick-out style game. Anyone who has ever
enjoyed playing brick-out could love this game. You begin the game with 1000
dollars in funding which slowly ticks down as you play the game. When your
funding runs out the game is over, so the faster you beat the levels and the
more funding you collect the better. Powerups can be bought with your
funding and stored for later use, make timing and powerup combinations a key
aspect of game play. There are many other original ideas, including a
powerup to place explosions, a powerup that makes your palette magnetically
attract balls, exploding bricks, falling bricks, and an army of enemies to
get in your way. X Ball has 20 levels with over 15 different types of
bricks. The full version could keep you entertained for days.
This is a demo version of X Ball. Playing time is limited to 2 hours.

I don't have a technical explanation, but in my experience with a
scsi scanner, nothing is hurt if it is powered up after the computer
has booted up. However, if you try to access the scanner, the
computer may hang up, forcing you to reboot anyway. This happened to
me on my 9500 running OS 8.6 about half the time. The rest of the
time, the driver will pick up the scanner as it normally would. On
OS 9.1, the hanging problem seems to have gone away. I have been
able to fire up the scanner at any time and use it without any
problem. But, if the scanner has been on for several hours and has
gone to sleep, I sometimes get a system hang. The workaround is to
first turn the scanner off, and back on before trying to use it.

This is what Apple recommends. But you don't need to be afraid of a
power surge hurting your Mac if you just turn on your SCSI device
while the Mac is running; maybe your device just don't get mounted
because the driver is missing. If you use a mount utility like SCSI
Probe, Mt. Everything etc., you should be fine. Some devices
(Scanners, CDRWs) even don't need a special driver or the driver is
built into the software (for scanning, CD burning).
Take care you don't connect or disconnect a SCSI device while the Mac
is running; this could indeed hurt something!

Subject: sharing a printer over a network
I have a small network with one G4, a G3 powerbook and a 7300 connected via
a network hub. A PC is also connected to chare files using PC-Maclan. I also
have one HP1125C printer connected by USB to the G4.
I want to share the printer between all the macs when they are connected to
the network but cannot find a way to do it.
I suspect I may need to connect the printer to the PC and use it as a print
server.
Is there any way I can share the printer while keeping it connected to the
mac side of the network?
Also, I want to chare one internet connection between the Macs. Is there a
way to do this without having to route everything through the PC?
All help much appreciated.
