AlgebraTurboSeries writes a lot of worksheets on arithmetics and basic algebra
in a few seconds.
The section arithmetics includes the four basic operations.
examples: 3*4=12; 13*8 = 104; 8*(12-4)=64
The section algebra includes 1) distributive rule, 2) factorizing
examples to 1): 3(a-b) = 3a - 3b
(x+2)(x-3) = x^2 - x - 6

The most common types of polynomials are available in
AlgebraTurboSeries, e.g. "(A+B)(A-B)", "(X+...)(X+...)", etc.

I'm not much for reformatting. I run it through Disk First Aid, Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro, and Drive Setup (update disk drivers), then restart with extensions off (shift key down), then restart again and rebuild the desktop. That litany always fixes it.
Remember, if you leave the machine for about 10-15 minutes, it will "fix" itself. It's probably best to allow it to do this, and THEN run utilities.
However, this still doesn't address the clock-reset problem. I replaced the battery at one year even though it tested good. The new battery didn't help keep the clock on power off any better than the first one (which should last 3-5 years if the machine is always plugged in).
I suspect these problems may be related to some sort of motherboard, PRAM, or CUDA switch problem, and I know we're not the only ones experiencing the problem, because several others on Info-Mac have shared similar experiences and similar lack of solutions.

No! But I have found that if you leave the computer alone for about 10 minutes or so (during which time the drive makes repetitive noise patterns and the USB mouse doesn't work), it eventually continues the startup, with the mouse not working until the Finder is fully up and running. That seems to resolve the problem for the moment. It just happened to me yesterday, and OS X (or Classic running under OS X) seems to be involved somehow (not sure; I run OS X off an external drive, with Classic from my internal--using different volumes is recommended by Apple.)
Does your clock reset whenever you remove power to the machine? Is yours also an iMac DV SE? If so, then clearly there's an unacknowledged problem with the model. Cheers,

Hi,
After upgrading the firmware (to 4.1.3) on our iMac 350 MHz
(slot-loading) the iMac doesn't see the 128 MB RAM chip which is
installed as additional memory. Is this part of the RAM fussiness
whereby Apple won't let *inferior* RAM chips run for the newer OS
upgrades?
Is there a way to downgrade the firmware or do I need to buy a new RAM
chip? Am I missing something else?

Subject: Quick Time Codec and OS X Probs.. HELP PLEASE..
Hi, I am using a G4 Power PC and trying to install codecs so that Quick
Time 5 will let me play Divx and Mpegs but the problem is Quick Time ain't
playing ball...
It keeps saying there is a missing component or there is an Input/Output
Error ?
I place the codec in the Library/Quicktime folder and still no no...
What is it that I am doing wrong ?
My OS is OS X 10.1.1
When I install Media Player 7 for OS X which states that it supports MPEG 4
codecs and MPEG 3, 2, 1 I can't get it to play any mpegs it says I have a
missing component ... I don't know what to do as this is my first MAC that I
ever used and not sure what I am doing wrong...
OS X when I install and set the time and date to say 12:00am and 1st of Jan
2002 the menu calender and the calender in System Prefs shows the correct
dates and time, but if I create a file or folder and choose "show info" it
displays the year as 1970 and the time ais way out by 5 to 6 hours,
eventually when the date is fixed the time is still out by 5 - 6 hours...
what causes this or am I doing something wrong I have the time zone set to
GMT and even tried UK.
Strange thing is if I don't use the OS X CD to install OS X and use the G4
System restore CD the time and dates are all fixed ?
Whats going wrong ?
PS OS 9 does not have this problem even if I use the OS 9 CD or the System
restore CD...
