Adam has finally gone too far - at least with magnification
levels! With Bodelin's ProScope USB microscope, no hair is too
fine (or gray) to escape his 50X-magnified vision. Also this
week, Derek Miller walks through how to edit digital video
without expensive hardware and software. In the news, EIMS Light
appears at half the price of EIMS, and check out the charity
auction for a TidBITS t-shirt signed by Adam - all proceeds
go to the Mac-A-Wish Foundation.

Alchemy is a nifty little program for finding word ladders.
A word ladder is a sequence of words made by changing one letter at
a time; eg. LEAD LOAD GOAD GOLD. Given any two words, Alchemy will
find the shortest ladder between them, or beep if none found.
It can also find random ladders and longest ladders.

Alchemy 1.2 is a Carbonized app that runs natively on OS X.
It also runs on OS 8.6/9.x if CarbonLib 1.3 or later is installed.
The shareware fee is $20. For more details see:

Subject: [*] Keyboard Maestro v1.0.3

For anybody who works on their Mac, Keyboard Maestro is an essential utility
to perform many different tasks simply by pressing a few keys. Keyboard
Maestro allows you to spend more time working and less time mousing,
clicking, and typing to get your work done. Keyboard Maestro has three core
features built into it to make working on the Mac much simpler: Hot Keys,
Program Switcher, and Clipboard Switcher.

The Hot Key feature enables you to perform any number of user configurable
actions simply by pressing a keystroke. Hot Key actions include quitting,
hiding, or activating applications, inserting text, executing an Apple
Script, opening files or folders, and much more. All hot keys can optionally
be targeted to specific applications, allowing the hot key to be active only
when you find it useful.

Keyboard Maestro incorporates the wildly popular Classic MacOS application
switching utility, Program Switcher. In fact, Keyboard Maestro was written
by the author of Program Switcher. With the Program Switcher feature, you
are able to launch, switch, hide, and quit applications with a simple
keystroke. Keyboard Maestro brings to MacOS X what Classic Mac users have
been enjoying since 1994 - the most refined application switching utility
there is!

Keyboard Maestro also has the extremely useful clipboard utility, Clipboard
Switcher, built in. Clipboard Switcher allows you to define any number of
clipboards which you can use to copy to and paste from simply by
pressing a keystroke. Clipboards are automatically saved through system
restart, user logout, and are always available when you need them.

You may find out more information about Keyboard Maestro and even download
the free Lite version at:

http://www.KeyboardMaestro.com/

New features and bug fixes in this version include:
* Increased the number of hot keys available to the free Lite version to!
* The Execute UNIX Script hot key results can now be selected and copied or
dragged from the pop-up results window
* Improved user interface
* Hot keys that are targeted to different applications can now use the same
keystroke=20
* Fixed problem when the Keyboard Maestro periodically ignored the quit
command or crashed when quitting
* Improved the internal storage of file references
* Program Switcher now correct handles the case when there is no application
to display

Yes and no. Yes, the part is de-rated and if you paid for a 133 MHz
part and it is only allowed to run at a slower speed (eg., 100 MHz)
then you've overpaid. No, because if your system bus only runs at a
slower speed (again, for example 100 MHz) then it doesn't matter
anyway.

Go to Apple Menu -> Control Panels -> Appearance.

Click the Sound tab, and hold down the mouse where it says "platinum"
and change to "none".

Look at your control panel, Appearance, and see what the Appearance
tab shows. I choose Apple platinum because I have no other choice. Under
the sound tab they give you the option to turn off Sounds. I go for the
Platinum Sounds myself being on, but I would go even better for burps and
gugles sounds because then, when someday I might have a boss terrible' and
he comes round to see if I am enjoying my computer job (which he imagines I
shouldn't), he will get the impression I have worked too hard, am suffering
great anxiety to get the job done, and from those burps and gugles need to
go to lunch.
If there were only burps and gugles as well as Platinum sounds, I
might even enjoy lunch also!
;-)
I figured this world needs some gags and I hope you enjoyed mine.
;-)
No tomatoes please!
