Subject: [*] Alchemy 1.3

Alchemy is a nifty little program for finding word ladders.
A word ladder is a sequence of words made by changing one letter at
a time; eg. LEAD LOAD GOAD GOLD. Given any two words, Alchemy will
find the shortest ladder between them, or beep if none found.
It can also find random ladders and longest ladders.

Alchemy 1.3 is a Carbonized app that runs natively on OS X.
It also runs on OS 8.6/9.x if CarbonLib 1.3 or later is installed.
The shareware fee is $20. For more details see:

It also runs on OS 8.6/9.x if CarbonLib 1.3 or later is installed.

Subject: Acrobat 5 automatically launches in MS Explorer

When I had Acrobat 4 installed and I chose a link to a PDF document
in Explorer, the document would automatically download in the
background.

Then I installed Acrobat 5.

Now, when I use Explorer and choose a link that is connected to a PDF
file, Explorer opens Acrobat and opens the file.

This is very annoying and time consuming.

I would like to return to having Explorer automatically download PDF
files in the background.

(If I know I am about to hit a PDF link then I can use the right
mouse button to save to disk. However, most of the time I do not know
that the link is connected to a PDF document.)

I have looked over the settings in Exporer and in Acrobat, but I
cannot find the one to make the documents automatically download in
the background.

Can someone out there help me??

Thanks in advance!!

Subject: word problems

I am reluctantly switching over from WordPerfect 3.5e [can't seem to stop
incessant "document error" problems] to Word 98 and keep encountering a
memory problem.

I use a Mac G-4 with OS 9.2.

When I attempt to save a document in Word, I sometimes get an error message
saying the disk is full or too many files are open. However, I have
abundant memory (both set for Word and in RAM) and often have only one to
three short documents open.

How can I get rid of this problem?

Also, do you have any fixes for the plague of "document error" messages on
WP (which, were it not for that, is a superior program)?

Thank you.
