This upgraded version of the cricket game remains exclusive to the Mac

find that you can hit boundaries off the bad balls.
In the full version of Cricket, each team can be selected from a squad
of 15 players and you need to assess the bowling and batting
performance of the players to improve your team's performance.

Version 4.7 adds some minor features and removes minor bugs. It now
requires a screen resolution of 640x480 or better. Some plant info has been
updated. April, 2002
Edible Landscaping is an encyclopedia of perennials that are worth growing
primarily for produce. Every such plant that can be grown in at least three
USDA hardiness zones (i.e., can withstand 15 F or below) is covered in the
database. It includes fruits, nuts, herbs, and even a few perennial
vegetables. Uncommon edibles such as the jujube and chayote are included,
as well as popular favorites like strawberries and walnuts. The majority of
plants have color photos attached, often illustrating different aspects
(e.g., in a landscape, and a closeup).
Edible Landscaping can be used in conjunction with a large archive of color
pictures. It expects the photos to be in a folder named "EL Pictures"; it
can also be mixed with the photos in one folder. If you have difficulties
viewing the photos, try increasing the RAM (memory) available to the
program. 2500K should be plenty and 2000K will probably work too. You
allocate memory with the "Get Info..." command in the Finder.
Edible Landscaping is as a standalone application made in Hypercard. It
does not require Hypercard as a separate application. It will work on any
Macintosh. It does require 2.5 MB of available RAM and 7 MB of diskspace.
Displaying the pictures may require Quicktime 2.5--I'm not sure
(Hypercard's built in commands take care of showing the pictures--it's not
something I programmed). Edible Landscaping was tested under MacOS 7.6.1
with Quicktime 3.0, and 8.1 & 9.04 with Quicktime 4.1.
Detailed instructions are available from within the Edible Landscaping
software.

'Japanese EDICT 1.2' is a dictionary module (simple-dictionary) for use
with the 'Verbs & Nouns' and 'V&N Lookup' programs. You can download the
latest versions of 'Verbs & Nouns' and 'V&N Lookup' from the Info-Mac
mirror sites. They are stored in the directory: info-mac/edu/lang.
The original source for this dictionary comes from the Jim Breen's Japanese
EDICT project. Please see

The first port of the Japanese EDICT to the format suitable for use with
'Verbs & Nouns' has been prepared by Michael Fahey in 1999. I've just
converted the Michael Fahey's port to take the advantage of the recent
improvements in 'Verbs & Nouns'.
The dictionary module itself is free, to use it you need the shareware
program 'Verbs & Nouns 2.5.6' or later (or 'V&N Lookup 1.4.7' or later)

What does PresentMovie do?
PresentMovie does one thing, and one thing only, and that is play back
QuickTime compatible movies (.mov, .mpg or VCDs) stretched to fit the full
screen.
The main reason I wrote PresentMovie was to allow my children to easily view
QT movies without having to go through the multiple steps required in
QuickTime Player Pro. (cmd-M, select Full Screen with mouse, click OK)
How do I use it?
PresentMovie is unusual in that it doesn't have a standard user interface.
You can use it in one of two ways. The first is as a drag-and-drop app,
simply drag one or more movies to PresentMovie and they are played one after
the other. The second method is to place a copy of PresentMovie in a folder
with one or more movies and then simply launch PresentMovie which scans the
folder in which you launched it for movies which it then plays.
Keyboard commands:
Command-Q or ESC to quit
Command-TAB - to task out and pause current movie (screen will restore)
up arrow - turn up sound volume (hold down option for 100% volume)
down arrow - turn down sound volume (hold down option for 10% volume)
(The arrow keys adjust the movie's volume, not the system volume. The movie
volume can go up to 200% which may cause distortion. To adjust the system
volume, use the volume adjustment keys, if available on your keyboard, or
task out and adjust the volume in the Sound control panel.)

F - pause/step one frame forward
B - pause/step one frame backward
N - next movie, if more than one movie

'V&N Lookup' is an easy-to-use program that puts dictionary-power at your
fingertips. It makes use of the dictionaries for the application program

text-based applications because it searches for any word that you copy to
the clipboard. Depending on which modules you have, 'V&N Lookup' can locate

'Verbs & Nouns' is an application for practising inflection, translation
and pronunciation at the level of single words. Features include the
opportunity to do various inflection exercises, and translation exercises in
both directions; to record and play sound for single words; to do
exercises based on sound or pictures; and to play various word-games.
The program keeps a record of exercises, and identifies the words that
the student has difficulty with. Along with the program, you need a
module for the target language concerned. The program can also be used
as an authoring tool to write your own modules of inflected words for
any language. A built-in 'inflection-generator' simplifies the addition
of these words. A 'Find' feature allows the modules to be used as
bilingual dictionaries.

Subject: encrypted passwords for mail server?
Tried all this, no luck. POP and APOP, allow authorisation, etc.
May possibly be related to Microsoft UAM as the Macs were once connected to
the PC running Win2K Server and Services For Macintosh which gives an
Appleshare tweak to connect. I have just upgraded OS to 9.1 from 8.6 on one
but did not make any difference. Would rather not have to do a clean install
and start from scratch but may have to if I can't find a solution.

This is interesting, very much the reverse of most problems. I assume the

I gather you are using Eudora - what are your settings?
Checking Mail: Are you using POP, APOP, KERBEROS, etc.
Sending Mail: Allow authorization
One option might be to try creating a complete new set of settings. Keep a
copy of your old ones, but start from scratch and create a new set.

Hi Mike... Searching the web under "Norton Encrypt", I came upon this posting
you put in a message board back in 1997 (wow) that you needed to recover some
Norton Encrypted-files... I have the same problem, but no longer own the
application, nor does Symantec support it anymore.
Do you possibly have the program, or know where I could find it?

Subject: Help with old Norton Encrypt files
It has become *imperative* that I recover the data from approximately
100 old Norton Encrypt files, which were encrypted with the same
password, using the FasCrypt [Norton proprietary] method. I have done
some looking into the password scheme and am convinced that the keyspace
I need to search is reasonably small - if I can find the details of the
algorithm, I am secure about retrieving the data. So I think I have
three alternatives:
* Find someone who already knows the details of the algorithm
[paradise].
* Find a scripting-type program which I can put onto the Mac and have it
try passwords out of a list. [Something like, if this dialog box is up
then enter the next line in this file; stop when this dialog box comes
up. I'm not primarily a Mac user, so I'm not aware of how
easy/difficult this would be.]
* Learn Mac assembler and get a disassembler, and determine the details
of the algorithm from the machine code.
If anyone could help with any of these, including recommendations for
programs to use for #2 and #3, or has an idea which I haven't thought
of, I would be forever in your debt.

Subject: Slow access to Internet
My daughter's iMac 400MHz has just had OS X installed.
The old system 9 was backed up and the internal hard disk partioned into
three parts:
OS X 3GB
OS 9 3GB
Remainder 3GB
In succession the following were installed onto the OS X partition:
10.1
Security Update
Installer Update
10.1.3
all this as per Article: 106713 from the Apple Knowledge Base.
The original OS 9 was installed into theOS 9 partition.
Although the OS X responds quite quickly off the internet, the PROBLEM is
that it is very very slow either on email duty or accessing web pages.
I have checked all the settings I can think of but none seem to make any
difference.
The iMac has the usual internal modem. I have no suitable external modem
that I can experiment with.
The iMac is sat beside my beige PowerMac G3266MHz and shares the same dial
up link to the same ISP. I have compared their performance using the PING
utility supplied with OS X.
It is interesting that my G3 sent 10 pings and 10 were returned (average
return time .327 ms, but the iMac (at more or less the same time) sent 10
pings and only 4 were returned (average return time 369ms. This seems very
significant to me, but I don't know what to tweak. The target was
www.apple.com, I live in the East of the United Kingdom.
I have not carried out the Ping analysis on the OS 9 but the performance is
not much better than with OS X.
There had been some problems with the internet access prior to the
installation of OS X.
Does all this point to a faulty internal modem?
Any suggestions.

Subject: Why switch from 9.1 to 9.2.2?
I am using System 9.1 but not X for the moment.
Is there an advantage to update from 9.1 to 9.2.2 if I do not use X?
9.1 is very stable and works fine.
Will 9.2.2 have some features not present in 9.1?
Since the two patches total 100 megs, I presume this is not a minor upgrade,
going from 9.1 to 9.2.2.
