Subject: (Q) security labels cause TiG4 DVD buzz and freeze

Blockbuster is installing security labels on DVDs.
I observed Farscape DVD buzzing (just like labeled library cd's
buzz and become unreadable by my TiG4) and there was a freeze toward the
end of Main and I/E.T.
We tried the DVD "Along Came a Spider" both before and after
labeling and heard a distinct increase in buzz.
We concluded that when a DVD label is already multicolor the extra
security label makes the buzz that hurts the DVD being read.
I recall there was some sort of shim fix for a tight fit on the
TiG4 that prevented disk insertion. Mine inserts, but perhaps not well
enough to lodge down so top doesn't hit. I couldn't find the report from
sherlock 2 searches. Only found a shim fix for a battery disconnect.
I would hope Apple would find a fix to do at home for old TiG4 owners.

Author: mailto:clyde@imagerodeo.com
Image Rodeo product page: http://www.imagerodeo.com
Directory: graphics, web authoring

Image Rodeo is a template-based web photo album creator for Macintosh OS
X. Image Rodeo provides two simple and powerful mechanisms for building
the best and most unique web sites:

* You can choose from a set of canned templates with unique designs.
You have full control over thumbnail and photo size; you can add
captions and titles; and you can rotate your photos. Most templates
support printing through Shutterfly (optional).
* HTML coders can design their own templates using XML and Image
Rodeos built-in scripting language, IRScript. IRScript is loosely
based on JavaScript, and provides access to all of Image Rodeos
internal photo and html properties. Full source code for all of the
built-in templates is provided to kick start the process, and full
documentation is provided online.

Image Rodeo was designed to handle thousands of photos. It doesnt copy
your archive when you import; it supports a page hierarchy much like
Finder folders; and it's fast. And last, but not least: Image Rodeo was
built exclusively for Macintosh OS X, so it supports unlimited undo,
spell checking in every edit box, and AppleScript.

Subject: [*] Keyboard Maestro 1.0.4J - Japanese Version

This is the Japanese version of the Keyboard Maestro package.

An essential utility for anybody who works on their Mac, Keyboard Maestro
perform many different tasks simply by pressing a few keys. Keyboard
Maestro allows you to spend more time working and less time mousing and
clicking and typing to get the work done. Keyboard Maestro has built into it
three core features to make working on the Mac much simpler: Hot Keys,
Program Switcher, and Clipboard Switcher.

The Hot Key feature enables you to define any number of user configurable
actions simply by pressing a keystroke. Hot Key actions include quitting,
hiding, or activating applications, inserting text, executing an Apple or UNIX
Script, opening files or folders, and so much more. All hot keys can
optionally be targeted to specific applications, allowing the hot key to be
active only when you find it most useful.

Keyboard Maestro incorporates the wildly popular Classic MacOS application
switching utility, Program Switcher. In fact, Keyboard Maestro was written
by the author of Program Switcher. With the Program Switcher feature, you
are able to launch, switch, hide, and quit applications with a simple
keystroke. Keyboard Maestro brings to MacOS X what Classic Mac users have
been enjoying since 1994 - the most refined application switching utility
there is!

Keyboard Maestro also has the extremely useful clipboard utility Clipboard
Switcher built in. Clipboard Switcher allows you to define any number of
clipboards which you can use to copy to and paste from simply by pressing a
keystroke. Clipboards are automatically saved through system restarts and
user logouts, and always available when you need them.

Changes in version 1.0.4:

* New "Open System Preferences Pane" hot key action allows you to easily
define a hot key to open any installed system preference pane
* Added "Auto-Text Tokens" to the "Insert Text" hot key. The tokens
allow one to insert dynamic text, such as the current date or time.
* Hot keys are now disabled while a hot key event is being processed.
This allows you to define a remap keystroke hot key which generates a
keystroke that happens to be another hot key's activating keystroke and
not have the other hot key be activated.

Subject: [A] DSL in the UK

Richard,

I can not specifically address situations in England, as I'm an
American, however I can pass along some things based on my
experiences with DSL.

I would recommend staying away from USB based DSL modems. The
hardware I have seen is limited in total speeds they can support.
Worse yet, if you are using another USB port to print, for instance,
your internet surfing speed can suffer.

If you are looking to purchase your own hardware I would recommend an
external Ethernet/ADSL modem. I've used an Efficient Networks
Speedstream modem, 5260, and have had success with it.

As for setting up PPPOE, it is a breeze. I never told my DSL ISP I
was using MacOS X, as they currently don't support it. You can go
into the System Preferences, at the Show pull down menu choose
Built-In Ethernet, and then go to the PPPoE tab and click on the
check box Connect Using PPPoE. After that just fill in your user name
and password information. Apply your changes, making sure the
Ethernet port is the primary port (Easily done by going to the Show
menu again and choosing Active Network Ports and dragging your
Ethernet Built-In to the top.) That's it. Now your Mac will
automatically use the DSL to make internet connections. The nice
thing about this arrangement is you can leave your modem connected
and available as a back up option if the DSL does go down, the Mac
will auto switch to the port that is functional.

Monte

>Hi. I hope shortly to be taking the plunge and finally getting an
ADSL line at home here in London, and I'd like to seek any tips
readers - especially ones in the UK - may have concerning ADSL. There
are quite a few USB DSL modems out there, including ones made by US
Robotics and Dlink; some are advertised as being for the PC. I'm just
wondering whether it really is plug-and-play with these, ie does OS X
recognize and use them straight away, or does one have to rely on
special drivers, which would be a pain. Also, has anyone had any
problems getting PPPoE (or PPPoA as the UK variant is apparently
known) to work under OS X? Thanks in advance for any
suggestions/recommendations.
