File uploaded:
AudioToolbox.sit

Program URL: http://www.blackcatsystems.com/software ... olbox.html
Author email: cps@blackcatsystems.com

Abstract:

Audio Toolbox is an audio function generator for the Macintosh. Using no
additional hardware, you can produce sine, square, triangle, and sawtooth
waveforms of any frequency up to 22 kHz, as well as generate noise.

Audio Toolbox can be used to create all sorts of cool sound effects. You
have full control over the frequency, type and volume of each sound
produced.

You can generate up two ten different waveforms. Each waveform can be
routed to either the left or right channel, or to both. The amplitude of
each waveform may be adjusted, as well as the volume on each channel, which
is a mix of any waveforms routed to that channel.

In addition, there is a sweep generator. Super for producing "Whoop Whoop"
sounds, sirens, and more.

Requires a PPC Macintosh

Subject: [*] Audiocorder 3.3.0

File uploaded:
Audiocorder.sit

Program URL: http://www.blackcatsystems.com/software ... order.html
Author email: cps@blackcatsystems.com

Abstract:

Audiocorder is a program which allows your Mac to act as volume operated
(VOX) audio recorder, as well as a standard audio recorder, much like a
tape recorder.. It allows you to set the volume that the sound must reach
to begin recording, and the volume at which it should end recording. It
also allows you to set the trigger length for the start and stop values,
which helps you to eliminate recording short bursts of sound or ending the
recording process during a short pause (such as in normal speach). It may
also be used as a normal manually operated recorder. If you have an
internal modem, it can record telephone calls. In addition, it can play
AIFF sound files, including those created with other sound programs.

Each sound file can stored in AIFF format, a Macintosh standard sound
format, as well as the Windows WAVE format. The audio is sampled at 11, 22
or 44 kHz, with a sample size of 8 or 16 bits, either monophonic or stereo.
The name of each file contains the date and time (down to seconds) the
recording began.

Audiocorder is used in a wide variety of applications, including digitizing
LPs and tapes, recording animals and other natural sounds, and automated
recording of radio transmissions.

Audiocorder may also be programed with a recording schedule, specifying
when it should start and stop recording, much like a VCR.

It may also be used as a normal manually operated recorder. In addition, it
can play AIFF sound files, including those created with other sound
programs.

Finally, Audiocorder can record telephone conversations, using just your
internal modem.

Shareware, $20.

Subject: [*] BOOM 1.3b4

What is BOOM?
BOOM is an arcade game in the grand tradition, bringing the
playability and feel of the glorious 8-bit consoles on the
Macintosh. It can be described as "Bomberman meets Doom".
Actually, I took the basic Bomberman idea and dropped it in a
"Super-Deformed Doom" scenario (whatever this means).
As a space marine your mission is to penetrate 8 alien infested
areas, each one divided in 10 sub-zones, eliminate all enemies
using your bombs and finally kick the Big Alien Boss back to
where he came from.

System Requirements:
PowerPC processor;
9 MBytes free memory;
Mac OS 8.6 through X
CarbonLib 1.1 or later

Recommended Configuration
Mac OS 9 or X;
InputSprocket 1.1 or later (not supported under Mac OS X);
QuickTime¬ 4 or later with 'QuickTime Authoring' component installed.

What's new in BOOM 1.3b4?
* Fixed a subtle bug, introduced in beta 3, that caused the game
to occasionally crash or quit on error.
* This build has been compiled with less code optimizations to
avoid crashes and spurious errors on certain system configurations.
* Updated RezLib to the latest version (1.1.11). This update
fixes a bug that was preventing the game to load under Mac OS 8.6.

Distribution
BOOM is 15$ shareware.
You can distribute BOOM freely, provided that you leave the software and
the accompanying documentation unchanged. You can include BOOM in CD-ROMs
and other software collections only by previous agreement.

Requirements:
350MHz G3/G4 or better running OS 9.1
CellSynth will run on a 233MHz G3 iMac with OS 8.5
CellSynth is NOT native to OS X but runs in Classic 9.1
The faster the Mac the more CellSynth can do!
Version 3.0 of Sound Manager.
Your Mac must be able to play stereo 16 bit audio at 44100.
A monitor capable of displaying 1000's of colours.
A sense of fun!

Short Description:
CellSynth is a software synthesiser, MP3 and AIFF sample player, DSP
processor & sequencer combined

Description:
Sync Different! CellSynth addresses several of the main areas in
computer music, notably audio synthesis, audio sequencing, sample
manipulation, audio processing and automation sequencing. Unlike many of
the more conventional software synthesisers on the market, it is compact
and easy to use, and does not require detailed synthesis knowledge.

Its efficient design means that all functions operate in real-time with
low latency, allowing it to be used in a live environment with MIDI
keyboards or other MIDI sources. All output can be recorded to disk for
use in other software such as MOTU's Digital Performer, EMagic's Logic
or Steinberg's Cubase VST.

CellSynth is unusual in catering for both musical beginner and expert
alike. Whilst the program is easy and intuitive to use, with an on-line
manual and tutorial, those with prior knowledge of synthesis are not
left frustrated - Best of all it's shareware!

New Features in version 1.7:
This new release of CellSynth contains support for ReWire from
Propellerhead Software www.propellerheads.se allowing the user to link
directly with the popular software sequencers Digital Performer 3.0,
Cubase VST and EMagic Logic.

Morse Mania is a morse code tutor for the Macintosh. It helps you learn
morse code by first introducing you to the morse alphabet, so you can learn
what each character sounds like. Then you can practice by listening to
random characters being sent, and test your ability. This version adds the
ability to play a text file, making it easy to create your own practice
sessions.

In addition to drills to help learn the various characters, Morse Mania
also allows complete text files to be sent, so that "real life" messages
can be used for practice. In addition sample QSOs can be automatically
generated and sent, so users can practice copying real style communications
between ham operators.

Morse Mania supports the Farnsworth mode, which increases the speed of the
dots and dashes, and lengthens the pause between letters sent, allowing the
student to learn morse code at higher speeds more easily.

Finally, it allows the use of the Koch method of learning the code,
considered by many to be the easiest way to learn high speed morse code.

This is the Japanese version of the SwitchRes package.

Rated 5 Cows (highest rating) at Tucows!

What's new in this version:

*Corrects two bugs when reloading preferences after a restart when older
settings were not retrieved
*Solved a bug in Display Sets where main display and display position
should be both set together on 2 displays

SwitchRes is a little utility that will allow you to switch the
resolution of all your monitors . You can access to all the resolutions
of all your displays in a simple, customizable menu. SwitchRes
incorporates features from the Monitor Resolution, Monitor BitDepth, and
Video Mirroring Control Strip Modules bundled with your system. You can
use its menu in the Menu Bar, use its provided Control Strip Module, or
click on the Finder Desktop with its Contextual Menu Plugin.

SwitchRes has an extensive list of features:

* You can show and use all available resolutions of your video card,
not just those limited by your monitor. For example, 20 video modes are
available on my PowerMac 7300 internal video board. Enjoy your Apple 15"
monitor in 1024 x 768, or 640 x 480 in 120Hz !
* SwitchRes is totally configurable. You can define which resolutions
are really accessible, and which will require a confirmation.

* You can also create display sets which will allow you to change the
resolution and the depth of all your monitors with just one mouse click,
or just one key. With this new version, you can add scripts to display
sets. That gives SwitchRes the ability to launch a script with just one
key, or when an application is launched...
* You can assign a specific set to an application , so that every time
you use this application, your Mac will automatically switch to your
predefined resolutions. You will find this extremely useful for most
games.

* You can save the position of the icons and the windows on your
desktop, independently from one resolution to the other, unlike the
Finder. The configuration is restored at startup.
* You can script SwitchRes for resolutions and color depth changes.
SwitchRes is even recordable: When SwitchRes is running, every
resolution change is automatically recorded in the script editor

Subject: [*] The Atomic Mac 5.3.0

The Atomic Mac is a periodic table of the elements for the Macintosh. In
addition to the usual information found in such programs, The Atomic Mac
also contains a wealth of nuclear information on each isotope, including
half life, decay mode, and daughter products. X-ray data (fluorescence and
binding energies) is also available. A molecular weight calculator makes it
easy to find the molecular weight of compounds. A shaded diagram showing
the ranges of physical properties makes it easy to visualize relationships
across the periodic table.

Subject: [Q] Firewire PCI card for Power Tower

I have a Power Computing Power Tower 225 which is running OS 8.6. (I
haven't wanted/needed to check compatibility with OS 9.x, but am open
to opinions.) Recently, I installed a DLink DSB-500 USB PCI card and
after downloading the USB patch from Apple, it works fine. Feeling
lucky (and having the CD drive die and a Firewire external handy), I
installed the DLink DFW-500 Firewire PCI card and downloaded the
Firewire 2.3.3 patch from Apple. Unfortunately, the Apple System
Profiler tells me there is an unidentified card in the PCI slot (it
correctly identifies the USB card) and a CD inserted in the drive
does not mount. The DFW box says compatible with OS 8.6, but the
DLink people (while helpful) know nothing about Macs. Any
suggestions from the assembled wisdom out there?

Can someone say what a ".mdt-stamp" file is? On my system (9.1) it shows
no Type nor Creator code, and several seem to accumulate every few days.

Subject: ADDRESS BOOK WANTED

I recently had a major disk crash and even with two and a half hours
of Apple's help, ended up having to re-initialize my disk. I am back
up running Mac OS 9.0.4 on a G4.

Unfortunately, I could not find my backup of a recent version of
AddressBook, a utility by Jim Leitch & Jim Smith, that I used for
years. I have a large file of addresses and the older backed-up
version (4.2) that I did find in my backups cannot open my file of
addresses. I cannot find a recent version on the internet or in
VersionTracker or macupdate. E-mail to the above is bounced.

If anyone has a copy of a more recent version (than 4.2) would you email it to
me as an attachment?

Thank you,

Kimball Kramer

Subject: connecting Personal Laserwriter 320 to an iBook

How can I connect a Personal Laserwriter 320 to an iBook (last series
- all white) via USB?

The products I checked (Keyspan & Belkin) seems to be not compatible
with the Personal 320 model, and the Stealth Serial Port seems to
don't be good for the iBook.

I need to connect it via usb, because i use the ethernet for an adsl
internet connection.

I'll promise to summarize all the answers and post them back to the
list, as I've done in the past.

Thanks in advance.
