PubMedMaker is bibliography software, which is designed for anyone who
wishes to manage medical literature data with FileMaker Pro database.
You perform a search of the literature in PubMed or NLM gateway on the
Internet and save the search results as a text file. PubMedMaker
converts this text file into a FileMaker Pro database simply by dragging
& dropping. By using FileMaker Pro's function, you can search, select,
sort, and print literature references. Literature list can be formated
and exported with simple text, rich text (Reference list for your paper)
or HTML (Reference Web Publishing) to conform to the style you desired.
PubMedMaker has an automatic management function of PDF files.
What's new in this version--PubMedMaker 2.0 (Jun 10, 2002)
1. Fast reading of a text file--Reading a text file becomes 4 times
faster than old version of PubMedMaker. Barber pole is acting in reading
a text file.
2. Fast delete of duplicate records--Duplicate delete command becomes 9
times faster than old version file.
3. Addition of Author formats--Author formats for Reference list
increase in 23 formats from 13 formats in old version.
4. Author names with dots increased in up to 30 authors--Author names
with dots increase in up to 30 authors from 17 authors in old version.
If 31 authors or more, it is presented with 30 authors + "et al".
5. Store and restore of Reference Setup--You can store Reference formats
you arranged up to 6 set. Set 1 is used as default for newly generated
Reference database.
6. Improvement of making Reference database--Reference template is
duplicated by AppleScript.
7. Revision of data format--MEDLINE data are imported as separate items.
For example, journal name, volume, issue, page, date are separately
imported, and journal field is synthsized from these data. You can
toggle AU (abbreviate) and FAU (full name). Page data of pre-MEDLINE are
imported with abbreviated form.
8. Improvement of PDF path setting--Path data in the database are not
broken when PDF files cannot be identified. You can reset path data to
database file.
9. Improvement of Write Page and Search Page--These pages become large
to fit more than 800x600 dot monitor. PDF management buttons are
available at Write Page and Search Page. When you download PDF files
directly from on-line journals, you can register them in the FileMaker
Pro database.
10. Sending e-mail to corresponding author-- A mailer software opens
with incorporating e-mail address of corresponding author and data of
the paper, if MEDLINE data includes e-mail address.

Subject: Cannabalized Concurrent Connections
We have two iMacs in our study that have been sharing a connection to
our ISP for the past year with no problem. Both Macs are connected to
an Asante FriendlyNet hub, which is then connected to the cable
modem. Our ISP provides two separate IP addresses, and with this
setup we've both been able to be online at the same time.
But for some reason, in the past few days this whole thing has gone
down the toilet. No matter what we do, only one computer can be
online at a time. Making computer A active disconnects computer B and
vice versa. I've spent a couple of hours on the phone with our ISP,
and they can't find a problem on their end. I've checked the settings
in the TCP/IP control panel (OS9.1 and 9.2) and don't see anything
unusual. I took the hub into the shop to be checked out and it's OK.
I've swapped out the ethernet cables. I've even tried running OSX on
computer B (and that's another story), and the problem still occurs.
The only two things I haven't tried are having the cable company give
me a brand new modem and using a different hub (I don't exactly keep
spares around the house).
Does anyone have a clue what's going on with this? It's driving us
absolutely crazy!

Subject: Q: How to shut off improper shutdown warning
The annoying improper shutdown warning that appears when you do a
forced restart comes with a suggestion that the warning can be shut
off in the general controls panel (System 9.2). But the only option
given there is "Check Disk if computer was shut down improperly." I
want Disk First Aid to do its thing, but not give me the warning
message. Will unchecking this option do the trick, or will it also
prevent DFA from working?
