Is Apple's "Switch" ad campaign helping PC users think different
or blurring the carefully defined brand that the company has spent
years developing? Simon Spence returns with more insight into the
Apple brand. Also in this issue, Adam reports on the first week of
PayBITS results and generates envy among TidBITS staffers by
upgrading his TiVo. We also note the releases of Mac OS X 10.2
Jaguar, two Mac OS X security updates, and Default Folder X 1.6.

Hang3000 v2.0: The Carbonized Release!

Merrimack, New Hampshire, August 25, 2002: Ken Winograd and Space-Time
Associates announced today the release of a new Macintosh(tm) game
called Hang3000. Hang3000 is a word-guessing game for the NEXT
millennium. Hang3000 features colorful, non-violent graphics, digitized
sounds, synthesized speech, dozens of built-in word categories,
thousands of words, unlimited lists of your own words, options
especially designed for visually challenged users, hinting and more.
Hang3000 is a Carbon Mac application, suitable for use on Mac OS9 and

Hang3000 is "secretly educational". It's played for fun, but you can't
help learning. Hang3000 includes a "knowledge area". This area includes
information associated with the guessed word or phrase. If the word
chosen is from the States or Countries category, for example, the
knowledge area will show the capital of the State or Country. If the
category is Authors or Composers, the knowledge area will show facts
about, or famous works of, the author or composer. You can also make
your own lists (unlimited in number) and include your own associated
information. And, you can also add craftily created or humorous hints to
help a user guess the word or phrase.

There are dozens of categories, guaranteed to include something for
everyone. From Monsters and Dinosaurs to Star Trek and Television Shows,
from Animals and Birds to Colors and Cities, from Fruits and Vegetables
to Presidents and Vice-Presidents, from Rock and Roll to Opera and
Musical Instruments. And literally dozens more!

Hang3000 includes Multi-Level Winning Streak Score Boards and offers
full support for what's often known as "accented characters". Hang3000
supports the entry and display of words in many languages, including
Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, Flemish, French, German, Italian
Norwegian, Spanish and Swedish.

Version 2.0 of Hang3000 is Carbonized, allowing the game to run natively
on both Mac OS 9 and OSX. Version 2.0 also adds new categories designed
especially for women.

Hang3000 is available now. For more information, or to download or
securely register the program, please visit the Hang3000 web page at:

ImageViewer is a powerful and inexpensive Mac (OSX and Classic)
multimedia application,
which provides a complete set of image viewing, cataloging, browsing,
and editing capabilities.

ImageViewer supports all common image file types including animated
GIF, JPEG, PICT, and TIFF, as well as movies, PNG and BMP (with
QuickTime 3.0 or later). ImageViewer is great for quick and easy
organization of images and movies, and includes support for image
transfer from digital cameras, as well as, automated batch processing.

ImageViewer makes extensive use of QuickTime, and fully supports
video effects, which
may be used as transitions between images in a slide show, to create
multimedia presentations with flair! Save transition frames to create
beautiful animated images.

ImageViewer automates and greatly reduces the tedium of constructing
HTML thumbnail pages ("contact sheets"). There are extensive options
for creating html pages, which can be made "web ready" or used for
platform independent local browsing.

System Requirements:

Any Macintosh compatible computer
32MB of RAM or more
System OSX or 8.6 or greater (9.0 or higher suggested)
QuickTime 3.0 or greater
CarbonLib 1.4 or greater (1.5 or higher suggested)

Dear All:

I'm resurrecting an old LC II for my daughter and using System 7.1 on it.
I'm looking for MacUser's Find Pro III v.1.1.3
ZDNet used to host the file on it's MacDownloads site, but all the old
MacUser utilities have disappeared from their archives. Does anybody have
this utility (it's an application plus a control panel/extension, if I
remember correctly) and if so, could you email it to me?
