Many people were dubious about the Apple Stores, but Apple has
continued opening new ones at a brisk pace. According to Simon
Spence, Apple's on the right track, because the Apple Stores
give the Apple brand tangible form. Also this week, we look at
welcome changes in Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar and note the releases
of Suitcase 10.1.3, Netscape 7, and the return of the Palm
Conduit for Entourage X. Note that next week's issue will be
published a day late.

Dearest moderators and enthusiasts,

My last archive submitted had some junk data in the "trash" of the disk
image that artificially inflated the size of the archive. I'm enclosing
a cleaner version... Sorry about that.

American Hangman v2.01 - Carbonized for Macintosh OS9 and OSX!

Merrimack, New Hampshire, August 31, 2002: Ken Winograd and Space-Time
Associates announced today the "Carbonized" release of version 2.01 of a
fun Macintosh game called American Hangman. American Hangman is an
educational game based on the classic hangman word guessing game we all
played when we were kids. American Hangman merges the best of our
Presidents3000 and States3000 games into one inexpensive game. American
Hangman features colorful, non-violent graphics, digitized sounds,
synthesized speech, pictures and information, and options designed
especially for visually challenged users.

American Hangman is "secretly educational". It's played for fun, but you
can't help learning. Learn the names of the Presidents and their Vice
Presidents and First Ladies. Learn to recognize the face of each of the
Presidents. Learn their terms of office, their party affiliations, the
sequential ordering of the Presidents and more. Learn the States, the
State Capitals, State Birds, State Flowers, State Trees, State Nicknames
and more.

American Hangman includes Multi-Level Winning Streak Score Boards,
allowing students and family members to keep track of winning streaks.
Separate score boards are maintained for each difficulty level.

Version 2.01 includes many cosmetic fixes, modal dialogs are now
movable, default buttons now pulsate as they should in OSX, etc.

American Hangman requires a Macintosh (PPC-only) with screen resolution
of 800x600 (or more), and OS9 or OSX.

For more information, or to download or securely register the program,
please visit the American Hangman web page at:

Hang3000 v2.01: The Carbonized Release!

Merrimack, New Hampshire, August 31, 2002: Ken Winograd and Space-Time
Associates announced today the release of a new Macintosh(tm) game
called Hang3000. Hang3000 is a word-guessing game for the NEXT
millennium. Hang3000 features colorful, non-violent graphics, digitized
sounds, synthesized speech, dozens of built-in word categories,
thousands of words, unlimited lists of your own words, options
especially designed for visually challenged users, hinting and more.
Hang3000 is a Carbon Mac application, suitable for use on Mac OS9 and
OSX.

Hang3000 is "secretly educational". It's played for fun, but you can't
help learning. Hang3000 includes a "knowledge area". This area includes
information associated with the guessed word or phrase. If the word
chosen is from the States or Countries category, for example, the
knowledge area will show the capital of the State or Country. If the
category is Authors or Composers, the knowledge area will show facts
about, or famous works of, the author or composer. You can also make
your own lists (unlimited in number) and include your own associated
information. And, you can also add craftily created or humorous hints to
help a user guess the word or phrase.

There are dozens of categories, guaranteed to include something for
everyone. From Monsters and Dinosaurs to Star Trek and Television Shows,
from Animals and Birds to Colors and Cities, from Fruits and Vegetables
to Presidents and Vice-Presidents, from Rock and Roll to Opera and
Musical Instruments. And literally dozens more!

Hang3000 includes Multi-Level Winning Streak Score Boards and offers
full support for what's often known as "accented characters". Hang3000
supports the entry and display of words in many languages, including
Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, Flemish, French, German, Italian
Norwegian, Spanish and Swedish.

Version 2.01 of Hang3000 includes many cosmetic fixes, modal dialogs are
now movable, default buttons pulsate as they should in OSX, etc.

Hang3000 requires a PPC Macintosh and a screen resolution of 800x600 (or
more). Hang3000 runs natively in OS9 and OSX. A version of Hang3000 for
Windows(tm) is also available.

Hang3000 is available now. For more information, or to download or
securely register the program, please visit the Hang3000 web page at:

cal.X is a Cocoa-based program, displaying a window showing the
current month. Users can jump to past and future months and years,
as well as jumping back to the current month. If the current month
is being displayed, todays date will be highlighted yellow. Any
space in the calendar not being taken up by the current month will be
used to display dates from adjoining months (using a grey text color).

Users can write a small note for each day of each month.
Clicking on a day in the calendar highlights it blue and displays the
note for the day (if any). Days with notes attached will be
highlighted in a light grey color. If there is a note for todays
date, it will be displayed when the program is launched.

Software and source code are available from the cal.X homepage at

available (at the web site) for both the installer package and the
source code.

DupliMizer requires the Scripting Addition (osax) ACME Script Widgets

Mac OS 8.6 or later you can use the current version which is 3.0. The osax

This is the Japanese version of the Tex-Edit Plus package.

Tex-Edit Plus is a scriptable, styled text editor that fills the gap
between Apple's bare-bones SimpleText and a full-featured word

Version 4.3.0

* Scriptable regular expression search and replace (grep).
* Read and write RTF documents.
* OS X Services enabled.

Web Site Maestro is a useful tool for those who update their web site(s)
regularly, especially for professional web masters with large sites. But
it's also very valuable for the amateur with a smaller web site who wants to
make sure that his or her site is always in top condition.
It checks your web pages for dangling tags, missing attributes and broken
links, and - most importantly - it makes your pages load faster by
optimizing both HTML and script code.
The program features Smart Handling which means that only the pages that you
have changed are processed, i.e checked and/or optimized.
Web Site Maestro helps you keep organized by creating a duplicate site
folder for the optimized files. An added benefit is that it leaves your
original files untouched.
Uploading your optimized pages to a remote server is done with one
mouseclick.
Drag and drop is supported.
Web Site Maestro comes in three models: Mac Classic - PPC, Mac OS X and
Windows. With this you have the OSX model.

Subject: Outlook Express and IE

Hi,
I recently opened my Outlook Express clicked on one of the weblinks in an
email and received a message something like:
"could not connect to IE. If IE is installed you might need to rebuild your
desktop."
I do have IE installed (this is the first time a link has not worked) and
I've rebuilt my desktop a dozen times. I've run NU and Techtool lite. I
can't find anything in the preferences of either program that would fix this
problem.
This seems to have happened out of the blue. It's driving me crazy! Anyone
have any solutions or ideas?
Please email me with your answers.
Thanks,
Chris

I have been using SetextView to read Tidbits almost since OS X was released,
but it recently began quitting when any recent issues of TidBits was opened
within it (older issues work fine). Any ideas?
