Subject: [*] ffmpegX 0.0.4f

ffmpegX 0.0.4f
Video/audio encoder/decoder for DivX, MPEG-1/2, VCD, SVCD...

(c) Copyright 2002 Major, major4@mac.com
http://homepage.mac.com/major4
Freeware released under GPL license (included with the software).

ffmpegX is a Mac OS X GUI to ffmpeg the "hyper fast video and audio
encoder" (http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net). It can decode MPEG-1, MPEG-2,
MPEG-4 (aka DIVX4/5), VOB, AVI MS-MPEG4 V3 (aka DIVX 3), WAV, WMA, Real
Audio, H263(+) (aka RealVideo 1.0), PGM, YUV, PPM, AC3, PCM8/16 bits,
mulaw/Alaw, SUN AU format, MPEG audio layer 2, MPEG audio layer 3,
MJPEG and even more formats. This GUI provides quick encoding to DivX,
MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MP2, MP3 & AC3. MPEG-2 encoding relies on mpeg2enc
component from the mjpegtools package (http://mjpeg.sourceforge.net).
You can convert DVD video to DivX, DivX to VCD or SVCD, and DVD to VCD
or SVCD. Includes a bitrate calculator and a mpeg splitter for multiple
CD burning. When encoding to MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 it can author the video
as VCD or XVCD (.bin/.cue files for burning with Toast by dropping the
.bin into VCD window) or as SVCD or XSVCD (two .img files to be burned
in Toast under Multitrack XA window).

System Requirements
- Mac OS X 10.2
- To playback DivX, use codecs from www.3ivx.com or www.divx.com

What's new in 0.0.4f?
- Updated to ffmpeg CVS of 31 oct 2002 with all libs.
- Better handling of .mov container input (ie can now convert DV video
.mov to DivX, just export first the sound as WAV and "Add" it in the
Audio tab), better video/audio sync and WMA audio decoding.
- The new mpeg-1 "VCD" muxer has still issues and the mpeg-1 streams
can play choppy. Try qmin=qmax and mpeg-1 "2-pass" encoding.
- New version of the splitter works FAR better on mpeg-2 split, though
in some cases the 1st chunk can be shortened at authoring step.
- Added calculator presets for 90 min and 99 min CD media.
- The Mpeg Tools "Mux as.." function will use the Audio Sync ms value
specified in the mpeg-2 options tab.
- Multiple parallel 2-pass encoding processes are now allowed.
- Added "Passthrough" in the video codec and audio codec dropdowns
which will copy the video or audio stream directly to the output file.
Works only with AVI containers in output. Useful to change AVI files
with WMA audio into MP3 without reencoding video, just remuxing it.
- To address insisting request, added "Echo command line" option in the
Tools tab. It will echo the command line directly to Terminal -when
possible- (there are cases when it is not) so you'll enjoy again the
ability of stopping the encode with the "q" key.

Subject: [*] iPod2iTunes 1.7

*** What does it do?

iPod2iTunes is the only utility which provides real synchronization of
tracks and even playlists from your iPod(s) to your Mac(s).
The synchronization ensures that no duplicates are produced as it is easily
possible if files are copied from the iPod via other blind methods.
iPod2iTunes can be used to keep music on different Mac's up to date, to do =
a
full restore of tracks and playlists after a hard disk failure or accident
deletion of tracks or to clone an iPod.

Track transfer:
iPod2iTunes shows which of the iPod tracks are not on your Mac. Some or all
of these tracks can then be transferred to the Mac. iPod2iTunes builds the
folder structure for the files by the one of the following orders:
- album
- artist/album.
- genre/artist/album.
iPod2iTunes can merge the files seamlessly into the iTunes Music folder and
does never overwrite anything.

Playlist transfer:
iPod2iTunes can optionally synchronize the iPod playlists to iTunes. This
creates the iPod playlists in iTunes with only those tracks which are reall=
y
on the Mac (you don't get "dead tracks" if you haven't transferred all
tracks from the iPod). This feature works also if you have used other
methods in the past to transfer tracks.

Transfer history:
iPod2iTunes creates for every session a date&time stamped playlist
containing the tracks which were copied to the Mac. This makes it easy to
add those tracks to existing playlists or to create new ones from the just
transferred tracks.

NutDataViewerX13v1.0 is the Jaguar/Cocoa successor to
NutDatViewer 1.0.3 for OS 9.

NutDatViewer X13 is a simple lookup tool for the USDAüfs Nutrient
Database for Standard Release 13 (November, 1999). It reports either
calories (in various serving sizes or portions) or else a complete table
of nutrient values for a particular entry. Results are passed to your
web browser, which displays nicely formatted tables and compendia.

This program requires Macintosh OS X 10.2 (Jaguar). The USDA has a small
executable for Palm handhelds on its website, which I have not seen, and
an on-line query tool which does nutrient lookups (only), one of the
same jobs as NutDatViewer X13. Thereüfs no accounting for tastes, you may
prefer it ;-)

NutDatViewer X13 is SHAREWARE, but you need not register ($15) unless
you would like to receive product updates as these are released. The
USDA periodically revises its relational database structures, adds new
entries to its database, removes or updates old information,
significantly adds to the kinds of data it collects, and so forth.

The USDA's 2002 release (SR15) had minor data changes, but major
structural changes. If you are serious about nutrition, registering
NutDatViewer X13 probably makes sense for you, as I will be releasing
NutDatViewer X15 to registered users shortly.

Why pay with filesize and lose hard drive space or burn too many cd's?
Why not hyperlink derivations for all books with adobe acrobat. I
have done this in journal publications in pdf format, but not with textbook
excerpts.

I only needed black and white and that reduces the filesize cost
from color by as much as 24 times. To this end, I've invented the notion of
"convolution thresholding", thresholding a sharpening convolution of the
digital camera image. This is something like the human eye does with
lateral inhibition, that is something like a digital Laplacian. Not quite.
I am subtracting out the background and thresholding to black and white.

These convolutions can be sped up with being modularized in FFT's,
fast fourier transforms. It would take about a semester to do, as I have
done, with butterfly diagrams guiding coding. Don't see anything in the
next step frameworks to assist development time, yet... When I or someone
else gets a FFT in it it will be one lean mean xerox copying machine.

Note, not exactly 24 times reduction as above because the .JPG file
you get out of a camera is compressed whereas the tiff you throw into a pdf
file is not, not at least as I understand how to do it. There is no JPG
compression for black and white. But, sometimes I can get costs of 16k, 32k
and 50k for page that started out as a 1Meg JPG and that's more than 24
times (I use other tricks, exporting from iPhoto by rescale when resolution
not required and cropping).

Subject: [*] V&N Webster AB 1.1 - foreign language learning

'Webster AB' is a dictionary module (simple-dictionary) for use with the
'Verbs & Nouns' and 'V&N Lookup' programs. You can download the latest
versions of 'Verbs & Nouns' and 'V&N Lookup' directly from the Info-Mac
archives (the Education/Language directory), or via links from this web
site site: .

'Webster AB' contains the first part (letters A and B) of "The 1913 Webster
Unabridged Dictionary".

The dictionary module itself is free, to use it you need the shareware
program 'Verbs & Nouns 2.5.9' or later (or 'V&N Lookup 1.4.7' or later)
which you can download from the same places as this module - the
unregistered versions of 'Verbs & Nouns' and 'V&N Lookup' have some
limitations.

Subject: [*] Verbs & Nouns 2.5.9 - foreign language learning

'Verbs & Nouns' is an application for practising inflection, translation
and pronunciation at the level of single words. Features include the
opportunity to do various inflection exercises, and translation exercises in
both directions; to record and play sound for single words; to do
exercises based on sound or pictures; and to play various word-games.

The program keeps a record of exercises, and identifies the words that
the student has difficulty with. Along with the program, you need a
module for the target language concerned. The program can also be used
as an authoring tool to write your own modules of inflected words for
any language. A built-in 'inflection-generator' simplifies the addition
of these words. A 'Find' feature allows the modules to be used as
bilingual dictionaries.

Ready-made modules are already available for certain languages. You can
visit:

to get more information.

Subject: [*] Web Site Maestro 1.6 (OSX)

Web Site Maestro is a useful tool for those who update their web site(s)
regularly, especially for professional web masters with large sites. But
it's also very valuable for the amateur with a smaller web site who wants to
make sure that his or her site is always in top condition.
It checks your web pages for dangling tags, missing attributes and broken
links, and - most importantly - it makes your pages load faster by
optimizing both HTML and script code.
The program features Smart Handling which means that only the pages that you
have changed are processed, i.e checked and/or optimized.
Web Site Maestro helps you keep organized by creating a duplicate site
folder for the optimized files. An added benefit is that it leaves your
original files untouched.
Uploading your optimized pages to a remote server is done with one
mouseclick.
Drag and drop is supported.
Web Site Maestro comes in three models: Mac Classic - PPC, Mac OS X and
Windows. With this you have the OSX model.
