I'm into older macs and older software. Are there any more sites with vintage mac software, shareware, abandonware? Help me, my friends! I'm lost without the older stuff. Thanks in advance.

It is unfortunately getting harder and harder to continue using older Macs. Good quality resources for software, drivers and information are rapidly disappearing, and most major companies (including Apple) are completely erasing any reference to Mac OS Classic.

We can't have any links to "abandonware" here, though, for legality reasons.

Go to the sister site http://www.system7today.com There is a software download section for optomizing an older mac. If you are into system 6, this site is not specifically for you, but there are knowledgeable people there.

Just for the record, another very vibrant site is Low End Mac.
http://lowendmac.com/

It includes a number of sub sites and active email lists that are targeted for everything from Mac OS 6 to running unix-type OSes on Old World Macs, with links to resources and archives.

Try Hardcoremac.com as they usually list quite a bit of softwre for older macs, including OS discs. PowerMax.com is another source you might find useful.

Stick with it bro You'll be alright, 9 ain't bad at all, and for your info, the Macintosh Garden is back up online.

I checked it this year, portsmouth are also hosting a domain as a project of Mac 9. We know the computers wares have gotten so big, that they are causing bandwidth troubles to those using big systems. Don't believe the hard core non sense line, its all over, or too hard to find now, its always there, and always will be.

Bit mad posting in a 6 year old thread but I'm beyond help.

Still Alive and Well

I used this last year to source a Tiger install for a PPC G4 PowerBook - An amazing site

As mentioned there are others - in fact a new one is:

https://www.macintoshrepository.org

(are those links ok - I'm not trying to get a ban - just like to point people the right direction if pos)

Unless I get an old Mac in the future I'm unlikely to run anything like MacOS9 or lower - But I do like Word98 in Classic

Old stuff is great but unless you have the room to keep it actually running not just stuffed under the stairs then there's little point.

Sad I know.

The old stuff was great.

In it's day.
