I am trying to open a video on array sync i am using my macbook pro which has osx mavericks. I am trying to open like my finished iMovies projects and videos from my iPhones camera roll

Okay well if you’re downloading movies directly from your iPhone they should play in ArraySync just fine. ArraySync won’t play iMovie projects though, they have to be exported to QuickTime format first.

Are you getting any error message? Can you send a screenshot of exactly what you see? Or how about a sample of one of these movies?

There is no error message it just looks a little tinted gray underneath the video

To open a video on one of the monitors you have to right-click it and choose Open Video, or drag a video and drop it on top.

It sounds like you're clicking "Open preset" instead, which is not what you want in this case.
