Replace optical drive with HDD in Powerbook?
I've got a 12" powerbook with a dead optical drive, and I don't use it enough to be worth putting in a new optical drive. However, since I plan to upgrade it to Leopard it would be nice to have a second internal drive for time machine, so is it possible to put a hard drive in where the optical drive is?

I don't see a problem from a software standpoint. As for actually mounting a hard drive in place of the optical drive, there you may run into problems. It may not fit in the same space without major modification. I have not opened my 12" PowerBook to verify this, but I wish you luck if you attempt the operation.

As cool as the second drive would be, I'd be even happier if someone figured out how to lodge a second battery in there -- one that would be in the unit all the time, to supplement the user removable one. Go all Pismo on it, as it were.
