PowerMac G4 733 Quicksilver

Post by cr2032 » January 23rd, 2008, 3:08 am

Hi, I have installed OS922 and 10.3 in 2 partitions. The Apple System Profiler reports 733 MHz in both OS.

However, when I use Macbench 5.0 in OS922, it reports 1324 mark (compared with G3/300) i.e. it is about 400MHz only. It shows nearly the same result when I use Gauge Pro 1.1.

when I run MacBench 5.0 in 10.3 under classic environment. It even worst to 1000 mark i.e. same as G3/300.

Anyone have clue why the G4 733MHz Quicksilver report such slow rate when using Mac bench 5.0 & Guage Pro 1.1 ? thanks.

I don't think any of the classic benchmarking apps were really made to recognize the G4s all that well. You should try a Mac OS X benchmarking utility instead, such as Xbench.

Thanks & noted, I tried the xbench before but it shows a comparison with G5 which I don't have and don't know how the performance compared with G3 (that I have).

So, if anyone knows any benchmark software can be performed good on G4 at classic OS, please let me know.

Thanks a lot.

Xbench maintains a result database that you can use to compare benchmarks to all kinds of systems, including Blue & White G3s. The result comparison database is especially nifty because it contains lots of systems that people have upgraded, as well as stock systems.

Thanks D, but I can't find where to set the reference to G3 ? could you please let me know how to change this reference ? The Xbench I downloaded is ver 1.3.

thanks.

You don't have an option to set it in Xbench - that is stuck at G5 and is only used to create the little bars. The hard numbers are not effected, and you can use those to compare your results to other G3s or any other type of system. Also, after running the tests, you should see a dialog asking you if you want to upload your results to the site. If you do, you can then use the site to directly compare your results to any benchmark you'd like.
