Searching for Italian Language Software

Post by Mapleleaf60 » February 4th, 2008, 11:59 pm

HI:
Almost all my life I have been using desk top Pc's and laptop! We have presently 3 desktops!and 2 laptops- ALMOST 18 MONTHS AGO I GOT MYSELF A MAC G4 POWER BOOK! Yes I am glad to say that i managed to tutor myself and find the Mac very intuitive and easy to work with for most applications- There are times when I do get stuck! but its rare-

My Mac is like my sitting room companion, as it remains in the living room, and its always on my lap, even if all others are watching TV , I am at the mac paying attention to both!
recently I have restarted my language course at the Italian cultural institute, and was looking for stuff to download on my Mac so I could do more work- I found a great site
-//users.netmatters.co.uk/dandaforbes/Italian.html
This site allows downloads to help students to study languages, in my case its Italian- I used to use the safari browser, and when I tried to download , I kept getting " safari cannot open the page etc' So I used the Firefox browser- I got the same message.
can anyone on this forum help me out?

Interestingly, clicking the "Problem with Download" link leads me to a list of old Info-Mac mirrors. Rolling the mouse over all of them reveals a link to the Language folder, located inside the Education folder of the Archive folder.

In other words, I believe you're looking for this:

Italian Dictionary:

http://archive.info-mac.org/edu/lang/vn ... ian-10.hqx

Italian Verbs:

http://archive.info-mac.org/edu/lang/it ... bs-128.hqx

Italian Nouns:

http://archive.info-mac.org/edu/lang/it ... uns-12.hqx

Basically, any link on that site that you want to download, note what it's address is, and replace the beginning with http://archive.info-mac.org - that should lead you to the correct current location of the files. Be warned though, these appear to be old files meant for used with Mac OS 9. They will probably not work under Mac OS X unless you have Classic Mode installed.

Users cannot email you from this board - you have to return to see your responses. Also, it is considered polite to only start one topic on the subject. If you are unfamiliar with how online forums works, feel free to take a look at the FAQ.

As a side note, the title of this topic was cleaned up, location moved, and duplicates deleted. A clean and tidy forum is a happy forum!
I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do.

Thanks for the prompt response- However I am not sure if I should click on the sites that you posted in your response- Can you please help me further? How should I go about downloading the same? YES they are the ones I had wished to download and more ,all of them on that site-The language tool kit and reader etc.
If this is not possible , then would you know of any sites with free downloads similar to this one? I do have many others but each of them have limited stuff!
I do not mind sending for the Cd rom they mentioned but even the email given there seems to bounce back!
sorry for the bother - but if you do find the time to help , it will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks as well about the change!( subject)and will stick to one topic at a time__ oops!

You may want to look into a more modern and current language program for Mac OS X. Especially take a look at the Rosetta Stone: Italian series of language software.

I don't know if you solved your problem, but I use a suite of language tools called Ultralingua. They also include Italian and they come with dictionaries, a conjugator and many other features. I use the German and French modules, but I'm sure the Italian one is every bit as good. They also have a discussion forum.

Here's a link:
