If you mean format a 500 GB drive attached to the G4's internal bus, no. You must have a third party controller PCI card that supports large drives.
I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do.

Finally got around to trying this and yes it works just fine to partition into 4 seperate drives without changing the PCI card.
