Mac Pro 12 GB of ram optimal configuration?

So now I have four sticks of 1 GB memory modules, and four sticks of 2 GB memory modules for a grand total of 12 GB. From what I've read online, the best placement of these modules would be 2x1 and 2x2 on the top riser, and the exact same on the bottom riser. Is this correct for best performance?
I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do.
