adding internal SATA Hard drives to PowerMac g4

Post by josearturo » October 23rd, 2008, 10:58 pm

I'm considering adding two sata internal drives to my g4. Can some advise if the following equipment is compatible with the g4?

1 Tempo PCI SATA card $80

2 Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB Hard Drive
7200, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM $140

Thanks,

The Sonnet cards are specifically designed for use with your Mac and will work fine. The drives them selves are all interchangeable; it doesn't matter if you have a drive from WD or Seagate or Hitachi, they all connect to and operate the same. So I'd say go for it.
I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do.

Let us know how that works out. I vaguely remember reading somewhere (maybe here) that someone had done it and despite what Sonnet's website says, it was giving them trouble. I doubt that is the case for most people, but would still like some reassurance.

Does anyone have a brand or model of preference in terms of selecting a SATA internal hard drive?
An internal hard drive can be purchased for use with different interfaces, including SATA ports.

I seem to have a bias toward Seagate hard drives. I've been buying them for as long as I can remember now.
