Do you have to upgrade? I am happy with Snow Leopard and my magic trackpad and mouse.

You do NOT have to upgrade. If you are happy with Snow Leopard and what it offers, stay with it. I know, I will. Some of my favorite programs will not run under Lion because Rosetta will no longer be supported. One of the programs I would not be able to use under Lion is Quicken. If you are an old time user of Apple, you might be interested to know that AppleWorks, which was declared End-Of-Life by Apple, will no longer be useable as well. Earlier versions of MS Office For Mac will not be supported either. I'm staying with Snow Leopard as I'm satisfied with what it offers and how it runs.

I haven't noticed any adverse effects. Just make sure you don't have legacy PowerPC apps, because they will not work after you upgrade no matter what.
