I am currently using an Macbook pro 2016 13 inch no touch bar and was inspired by some youtube videos in which they show you how they have upgraded their mac from 2012 and the computer is as fast as macbook pro 2016. I am wondering, if I were to purchase a 2012 15 inch macbook pro, and upgrade the ram and ssd, will the 15 inch from 2012 beat my 13 inch from 2016?

Upgrading a 2012 MacBook Pro with an SSD can only (at best) allow the 2012 device to startup, open apps and manipulate files at a comparable speed to a 2016 MacBook (or possibly even faster if the 2016 has a traditional platter HD).

As soon as you start using the CPU or GPU the 2016 will clearly be faster. More details on the exact two machines in question would be better as each generation has a variety of CPU and other configuration options.

You already have a computer that is significantly faster in all respects than even a fully-upgraded MBP 2012 (I am typing this on an upgraded 2012 MBP). Whoever told you that it is "as fast" is full of it -- these upgrades will certain help make it closer in speed, but the CPU, GPU, storage, and thunderbolt/USB-C ports are significantly faster/more efficient. Turboladdade is right.
