Apps deleated during OS update

While updating my iPhone OS from the iTunes website several apps were deleated, one was a photo ablum storage app with over a hundred photos. I can't recover them.
What did I do wrong?

The primary thing you did wrong was not backing up your photos. Given that iTunes handles this automatically, I'm kind of amazed you managed to lose something.
As for the app itself, you can redownload the app from the App Store at no charge. Apple keeps track of your purchases.

Hi! I'm a newby to my new 8gig iPhone & I'd like to know the same? How do we Back Up? There's an App Update waiting for me but cautions me to Bk Device. Help? TU!
