lot of offers ranging from magazine subscriptions to refinancing your home mortgage. There are literally thousands of those shady offers online for all kinds of products from all kinds of manufacturers, Apple included. Please don't post that sort of thing here, though. Thanks.

In short, yes its a scam -- bad enough that its a scam, but its a scam that involves you tricking your friends into falling for the scam.
If you're good, you MIGHT "win" an iPad (after spending a LOT of money and conning your friends), but you end up poor and with everyone p.o'd at you.
Not worth it.
