Okay thanks. Also the new multitasking toolbar doesn't keep the app open it's just a shortcut for previous used apps. Is there a way to make sure the app stays open rather than just becoming a shortcut?
Thanks mike

That is indeed the running app launcher, similar to Mac OS X's Dock. The problem you may be experiencing is apps that aren't yet updated to take advantage of the multitasking system. You can use iForum as an example.

On iPhone OS 3.x and first and second generation iPhones running iOS 4 that cannot do multitasking, switching from iForum to something else and then back again will bring you to a blank globe screen and an activity indicator as iForum reloads the last location you were at. However in iOS 4 and using iForum 1.0.6+, you are instantly brought back to the last state iForum was in, including any typed text.

Multitasking in iOS 4 involves allowing background applications to perform a number of tasks in a limited state, as opposed to literally running apps in the background to the same fullness as a foreground app.
