Yes, Skype is free if you're calling other Skype users. It costs money to call regular phone numbers.

It should be mentioned that Skype's rate for VOIP to "real phones" is ridiculously cheap: with prepaid it's like six cents a minute across North America, and there are plans with unlimited calling across NA for $30/year.

It's all voice over internet protocol. You get charged if you call someone's normal non-Skype phone number.

Free and cool I like it for calling internationally back to my kids don't have to worry about how long it lasts:)
