I recently purchased my iPad and am loving it, however I only bought the WIFI version thinking I'd only use it at home and such, however I like the iPad a lot and im beginning to think i'd like to take it to work etc. Can anyone think of a way to use my iPhone to provide the 3G connection to my iPad on the rare occasion that i might need it??
Neither are jail broken and I've no plans to jail break them any time soon. I don't see a need to jailbreak, i like the products the way they were sent from apple.

As far as I'm aware you can only tether with a device with ad-hoc support and the iPad and iPhone don't support this.

Computers and other phones that can ad-hoc are usable, hope this clears things up.

But,,,, The iPhone 4 will not resolve your 3G need.
On some forums I read the possibility to make a private wifi LAN using your iPhone and/or your MacBook when you are on the road, but not tested by me, because at last I prefer to bought the 3G iPad. For the thinking iPad bayers: if you have kids, then buy the 64gb, you will need it just for their movies and of course ever and ever the 3G version.

One of the features of the iPhone 4 is that you can use it as a modem isn't it?

Buy a second hand Nokia Series 60 RD ( they are not expensive) and install Joikuspot for about $5, then you can use it as hotspot. I was using it on my bus trip recently and works great.

All you need is a jailbreak and MyWi from the Cydia store. Then you will be able to turn your iPhone 3G/3GS/4 into a mobile hotspot.
