Update both to iOS 5, enable your free iCloud account (and on your Macs and PCS too) and Apple will handle it all automatically in the background for you.

Thanks for your quick reply, it hasn't happened but the problem may be is that we both have different logins and of cause iCloud would not know the relationship. Should I change the ICLOUD login so we both have the same?

Yes that's correct so you can either sync all your iDevices to one iCloud account, or simply sync them all to one Mac with iCal using the USB cable.
