Moving photos from IPad and iPhone to computer

Just acquired my devices so very much a novice. I have transferred photos successfully using photo stream to free up Icloud storage but seem to have lost videos in the process. Can anybody explain where they might be and whether I can recover them?

Videos don't go to Photo Stream. You can try just plugging your iPhone or iPad directly into your Mac and using Image Capture to browse all of its photos and videos. Image Capture can be found in your Mac's Applications folder.

Thanks for that advice. Very useful and much better than emailing them to myself. Any suggestions as to where the videos might have gone and if they are recoverable?
