Clean-Install Assistant: version 1.5.3, May 29, 2002

Clean-Install Assistant makes it easier to migrate third-party and
personal items to a new Clean-Installed System Folder, and it may also be
used to:

Save space and backup your valuable additions and preference files
only, instead of the whole System Folder.

Install the same set of additions on multiple Macs.

Remove extra files and folders from your System Folder to restore it
to a previous state: you can take a =8Csnapshot=B9 of the System Folder
and have Clean-Install Assistant extract any items added since.

v1.5.3 allows moving files from Mac OS 9.2.2 to a newer Mac OS version,
or to/from 9.2.2 and previous versions.

It is free for personal and educational use.

Keep-It-Up Classic 2.5

Keep-It-Up (KIU) is designed to keep your Macintosh server up and running.
KIU relaunches applications that crash, it can restart the Mac on a
regular basis and it can monitor free memory and disk space. It also
allows you to remotely manage and monitor your Mac (server) using a
webbrowser. KIU automounter will automatically (re)mount Appleshare
volumes on your desktop.

The primary function of KIU is to automatically relaunch applications if
for some reason they stop running (crashes, accidental quits,...).
KIU can also restart your Mac on a regular basis, which may improve the
"health" of the applications.

=46or remote management purposes, KIU has a tiny "embedded" webserver
(running on a port of your choice) that allows you to remotely
perform many functions such as: restarting the mac;
view, kill or restart running applications; launch applications;
run Applescripts; view logfiles generated by applications ...

KIU can send e-mail messages to you, actively alerting you of important
events such as : free memory or free disk space falls below a certain
preset level; an application gets relaunched; KIU restarts the Mac ...

Keep-It-Up Classic is designed for use with MacOS 7, 8 and 9.

Version 2.5 adds lots of improvements, most notably the KIU
automounter, which can automatically mount Appleshare volumes at
startup and remount these volumes if your Mac gets disconnected from
the Appleshare server.

KIU is $22 shareware (payment using Kagi).

Subject: [*] Web Dumper v1.5.2

Maxprog is proud to present another update of its web tool product
named 'Web Dumper' a full featured internet tool that allows users to
download web sites for offline browsing.

What's new in this release?

*User Agent header can be freely set.
*Connection timout can be changed.
*New preferences file type selector.

Screenshots available at: http://www.maxprog.com/WebDumperShots.html

Web Dumper overview

If you are viewing a Web site with your browser and you decide that you
would like to make a copy of it on your hard drive, you have to
manually save each page as you view it along with embedded pictures,
sounds and so on. This can be a very long and tedious process, and in
many cases it's more trouble than it's worth. It doesn't have to be
that way, however, as Web Dumper makes this whole process very fast and
easy.

With Web Dumper you can download entire Web sites off of the Internet,
and save them on your hard drive for later offline browsing. Downloaded
Web sites are saved on your hard drive with their directory structure
intact. Web Dumper automatically downloads HTML documents along with
their embedded pictures, sounds, movies and so on while it screens them
to look for any enclosed links to other documents.

Web Dumper lets you select which kinds of file you want to be dumped
between more than 60 available standard types, the folder depth level,
how links must be processed and if it must re-link your HTML documents
for offline browsing.

Rush to check out the excellent tool called "SmartWrap" by Sanford
Selznick. It includes plugins for Eudora & Outlook as well as
AppleScripts for other mail clients and the finder. It automagically
turns the clipboard from dreck to readability. In Eudora, it does
this in place without having to turn on the "write" permission. It
does in it OS9 and X.

I am one *very* satistfied customer.

Usuall, rebuilding the desktop file solves this kind of problems. You
have to hold down the Option an dthe Command key during startup until
the Mac asks you if you really want to rebuild the desktop file.

However, I probabbly do not correctly understand your problem. Do you
really want to open PDF files with the PDF-creation application? If
they are double-clicked they should open Acrobat Reader, not
Distiller or Writer.

Best wishes, Christian.

Any idea what I have to do to make such a disk?

I had the same problem a few years ago. Don't remember all the details, but
basically it was Word 6.01 failing to run on a new OS. When youmoved to the
G4 did you changed OS too? The solution for me was to use Word 98, which
still does fine on 9.1 and on a friend's 9.2.2.

You have probably not copied over ALL of the Microsoft files and
folders from your old system folder.

It is difficult to transfer a piece of software from one system to a
new one and not forgetting some (more or less important) needed
parts. It's probably easier to install everything new from the
original floppies or CDs.

If you still have access to the old computer, you could connect the
two together and then copy over the old system folder to the new
computer, delete the finder and system files from the old system
folder (to make sure the Mac does not become confused about having to
system folders on the same partition). Then you can go and look
whether the missing file is there, and drag it to the approptiate
location in the new system folder. But, as I said, this is not the
easy way.

Maybe, on a G4 you are even better off using a newer version of MS
Office (I'm using Office 98 on a G3 with OS 9). Word6 is part of
Office 4.something which worked well with MacOS 7.5.5 or 7.6.1. I am
not sure whether it can be used without problems on a G4.

Good luck, Christian.
